Use the following abbreviations: KO kick off GK goal kick DFK direct free kick CK corner kick DB dropped ball IFK indirect free kick PK penalty kick TI throw-in None play continues * Unless otherwise stated, assume that: - the two teams are Red & Blue - the ball is in play and outside the penalty area 1. An easy Red shot on goal travels directly toward the Blue goalkeeper who deliberately controls the ball by parrying it to the ground, then dribbles to the top of the penalty area, collects the ball with his hands, and punts the ball toward the halfway line. INFRACTION DISCIPLINE red blue 2. A Red substitute who is sitting on the bench, throws a shoe at a Blue defender who is near the halfway line. INFRACTION DISCIPLINE red blue 3. An IFK is awarded to Red. After setting the wall the referee signals for the kick to be taken but does not hold up his arm. Red kicks the ball directly into the goal. 4. A Blue defender, inside his own penalty area, throws a rock that hits a Red substitute. INFRACTION DISCIPLINE red blue 5. The Blue goalkeeper, inside her own penalty area, throws the ball at a Red attacker standing inside the corner arc.

6. A Red attacker slides across the touchline during the normal course of play. With the ball still in play the Blue midfielder steps over the touchline and strikes the attacker before he can get up. INFRACTION DISCIPLINE red blue 7. An IFK is awarded to Red. The Red kicker touches the ball with his foot and a teammate kicks the ball into the goal. INFRACTION DISCIPLINE red blue 8. A Red attacker passes the ball toward a teammate who is in an offside position. The ball deflects off a Blue defender before being received by the Red teammate. INFRACTION DISCIPLINE red blue 9. At the taking of a throw-in, a Blue player throws the ball directly into his own goal. 10. The Blue goalkeeper and Red player are in position for a PK. After the referee signals for the kick to be taken, the referee notices that the goalkeeper has moved forward, but allows the kick to be taken. A goal is scored. 11. The Blue goalkeeper and Red player are in a position for a PK. After the referee signals for the kick, he notices that the goalkeeper has moved forward, but allows the kick to be taken. The goalkeeper stops the ball. 12. The Blue goalkeeper and the Red player are in position for a PK. After the referee signals, but before the kick is taken, a Red teammate encroaches into the penalty area. The referee allows the kick to be taken. The Blue goalkeeper makes a good save on the shot, deflecting it to the Red teammate who then kicks the ball into the goal. 13. A Red player intentionally interferes with the Blue goalkeeper who is attempting to put the ball into play.

14. A Red attacker attempts to head a ball below her waist. A Blue defender must alter her attempt to kick the ball to avoid kicking the Red player. 15. As a Blue fullback moves to collect a pass, a Red forward jumps off the ground at the Blue fullback, not attempting to play the ball. 16. A Red attacker is chasing toward a through pass that has been placed deep into Blue s end. A Blue defender runs between the Red attacker and the ball, and Blue slows her pace such that the Red attacker collides with her. Meanwhile, Blue s goalkeeper is able to collect the ball. 17. Two Blue substitutes begin violently fighting off the field of play while the ball is in play near the halfway line. The referee stops play. 18. A Blue fullback defending his goal deliberately hits the ball with his hand, but the ball continues into the goal. 19. A Red attacker takes a corner kick. The ball strikes the referee, who is standing in the penalty area, and rebounds across the goal line (but not into the goal). Seeing the ball cross the line, a Red player turns toward the referee and offensively and abusively shouts at him for being in the wrong place. 20. The referee awards a DFK to Red. Before the kick is taken, a Blue player stands within 2 yards of the ball. 21. A Blue defender forcefully strikes a Red attacker just inside Blue s penalty area while the ball is in play at mid-field. The referee stops play.

22. You give a Blue player permission to leave the field of play to care for an injury. The player is not replaced by a substitute. When a Red player breaks away in the middle third and heads directly toward the Blue goal with only the Blue goalkeeper between him and the goal, the Blue player enters the field. He intercepts Red just outside the Blue penalty area and deliberately impedes Red by running across his path, not within playing distance of the ball. This causes Red to slow down and allows a Blue defender to catch up and tackle the ball before red can shoot. You stop play. 23. A Red attacker carelessly charges a Blue defender, knocking him to the ground. The referee whistles for the foul stopping play. He indicates a DFK for Blue.. The Blue defender, angered by the charge, then jumps to his feet and violently strikes the Red attacker. The Red attacker remains calm and does not retaliate. 24. During play the referee notices a Blue player, who was the center forward, is now wearing the goalkeeper s shirt and is playing as the goalkeeper. The Red team takes a shot, and this player deflects the ball over the crossbar with his hands. 25. At the taking of a corner kick, a Red attacker intentionally stands in front of the Blue goalkeeper in an effort to block the goalkeeper s view. As the ball is kicked and begins its flight toward the goal area, the attacker remains in front of the goalkeeper and makes no attempt to play the ball. 26. A Red attacker falls to the ground after being held by a Blue opponent. The player rolls around grabbing his ankle while screaming at the referee that the opponent should be cautioned. The referee decides that the player on the ground is only simulating an injury. 27. A Red attacker, while dribbling the ball near midfield, viciously slams his elbow into a Blue opponent.

28. When a Red player is about to restart play with a direct free kick, the Blue player who committed the foul directs an obscene gesture toward the kicker. 29. A Blue defender kicks a goal kick 10 yards past the halfway line into Red s half of the field. Blue s teammate, who was in an offside position at the instant the ball was kicked, collects the ball, dribbles and shoots it into the opponents goal. 30. Red takes a throw-in near midfield. The ball goes about 15 yards, arcing over the head of a Blue midfielder to a Red attacker. As the attacker pulls away, the midfielder grabs her opponent s jersey to stop her progress. 31. In an attempt to prevent a goal, a Blue defender, other than the goalkeeper, in his own goal area punches the ball with his fist. The ball goes out of play. 32. While play is underway, a player, not involved in the play, angrily argues the referee s previous call and ends by spitting at him. 33. A Blue defender trips a Red attacker about one yard outside the penalty area. The attacking player falls into the penalty area. 34. A Blue defender, while waiting inside the Blue team s penalty area for a corner kick to be taken, strikes a Red opponent before the kick is taken. TRUE/FALSE 1. T F On the sidelines during the half time, the referee sends off a player. That player s team is allowed to replace him during the second half. 2. T F If the referee stops play for an injury, the proper restart is an indirect free kick for the team that had possession. 3. T F An infringement of the Laws committed off the field of play cannot be a foul.

4. T F A free kick is awarded and the defense does not immediately give the required distance. The referee must not intervene unless the kicking team asks for 10 yards. 5. T F If the duration of play exceeds the allotted time in the first half, the referee must reduce the length of playing time in the second half accordingly. 6. T F When the referee terminates a game, he should declare the team that is ahead to be the winner. 7. T F If during the taking of a penalty kick, players from both teams encroach, the penalty kick shall be retaken. 8. T F At the taking of a PK, the goalkeeper deflects the ball into the field of play. The kicker is permitted to play the ball again unless time has expired. 9. T F At the taking of a PK, the ball deflects from the goalpost and into the field of play. The kicker is permitted to play the ball again unless time has expired. 10. T F Following a punishment for misconduct, the restart is always a free kick (or a penalty kick). 11. T F When the referee awards an IFK, he must raise his arm and hold it there until the ball has been touched by another player or goes out of play. 12. T F Unless the referee instructs otherwise, club linesmen are to indicate whether the restart is a goal kick or a corner kick when the ball goes out of play over the goal line. 13. T F During the taking of a goal kick, only the goalkeeper and the kicker (if not the goal keeper) may be inside the penalty area. 14. T F Law 15 says that a player taking a throw-in must face the field. This means the upper body must not twist at all, and the throw-in must be taken in the direction that the feet are pointing. 15. T F A goalkeeper, standing outside her penalty area, handles the ball which is inside the penalty area. This is a foul. 16. T F A goal has been scored and a teammate of the scorer was in an offside position while interfering with an opponent. The AR should stand at attention with the flag held straight down at the side. 17. T F The referee must report to the appropriate authority misconduct which occurs before, during or after the match, in the vicinity of the field of play. 18. T F A player in an offside position must receive the ball from a teammate in order to be penalized for offside. 19. T F The referee must not signal for the taking of a PK until all players are placed correctly as required by Law. 20. T F A goal kick is awarded. If the kicking team so chooses, the kick may be taken before all opponents have left the penalty area. 21. T F Once kicks from the penalty mark are begun, no substitutions are permitted. 22. T F The referee blows his whistle at the start of the game. Before taking the kick, Blue player strikes a Red player. The Blue player is sent off and now Blue team must field a maximum of 10 players.

23. T F An attacker realizes she is in an offside position at the time the ball is kicked to her. She steps off the field of play to show she is not participating in play. She should be cautioned for leaving the field without the referee s permission 24. T F Any player, other than the goalkeeper, who deliberately handles the ball within his own penalty area must be sent off. 25. T F The referee must signal for a kick-off to be taken 26. T F If the ball hits the referee inside the field and is deflected out of play, the referee should stop the game and restart with a dropped ball at the point where the ball left the field. 27. T F Unless the referee has otherwise instructed, a player wanting to take a quick free kick does not have to wait for the opponents to move the required distance from the ball. 28. T F If the referee must abandon a match for inclement weather, the game must be replayed in full regardless of the score or length of time into the match, unless the rules of competition provide otherwise. 29. T F The ball is punted by the goalkeeper. A player in the center circle sees the ball coming toward his arm, which is in a natural position, but makes no effort to avoid contact and the ball strikes his arm. The player must be judged guilty of deliberate handling the ball. 30. T F The Everyone Plays provisions of the National Rules & Regulations specify that, if a match includes overtime, it must consist of two equal periods and that every player must play at least one period. 31. T F When a PK is retaken, a different player from the kicking team may take the second attempt. 32. T F The team winning the coin toss gets to decide whether to take the kickoff or choose the goal they wish to defend. 33. T F A spectator enters the field of play but does not interfere with the game. The referee should immediately stop play. 34. T F The referee s authority and jurisdiction extends to team officials. 35. T F If time expires while the ball is out of play, the referee is required to wait until play resumes before blowing the final whistle. 36. T F If during the taking of a PK, a defender encroaches immediately before the kick is taken and a goal is scored, the goal shall stand. 37. T F At the taking of a CK, the ball must entirely leave the corner arc before it is in play. 38. T F A player while legally covering up (shielding) the ball, may not be charged. 39. T F When two opposing players on the field of play are yelling & cursing at each other while the ball is in play, they may both be cautioned for dissent. 40. T F Free kicks must be played in a forward direction.
