EA University Scholarship / Oscar George da Silva University Scholarship 2016 (for Polytechnic and Junior College Graduates) The Eurasian Association, Singapore ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Only students who meet the eligibility criteria will be called for an interview. (1) This Scholarship is open to students who have completed their Polytechnic or Junior College studies. (2) Applicants must be a Singapore Citizen. (3) Academic criteria: (a) Cumulative Grade Point Average [GPA] of at least 3.0 & above, achieved over the 3 years of study at the Polytechnic. (b) Students who have taken any supplementary exams during his/her academic tenure will NOT be eligible. (c) Candidates will be required to submit a 2000 word essay on his/her personal vision, career goals and potential contribution to the activities of the Eurasian Association. (d) As Polytechnic GPAs cannot be directly calibrated across the five Polytechnics, due credit will also be given to the O Level scores the candidate had achieved prior to entering the Polytechnic, during the selection process. (4) The candidate must show evidence of formal acceptance into the local university (NUS / NTU / SMU / UniSIM / SIT / SUTD) into a course that is deemed suitable by the Management Committee of the EA in consultation with the Education Advisory Board. (5) Applicants must be matriculating and commencing their course in 2016. (6) Recipients of other Scholarships are NOT eligible to apply. (7) Students under the NUS Financial Aid Package may apply. (8) Family income will also be taken into consideration; monthly income of $3000 and below, or per capita income $800 and below. (9) Applicants will be interviewed by a selection panel appointed by the Management Committee in consultation with the Education Advisory Board. The decision made by the panel is final. Selection of candidates for the award will be competitive and based on academic merit as well as financial position of the families. (10) Additional consideration will be given to applicants who have (in order of priority) taken part in voluntary work with the Eurasian Association, or who have impressive records of co-curricular activities in schools and the Polytechnic indicating strong leadership potential. TERMS & CONDITIONS The Eurasian Association reserves the right to amend the terms and conditions accordingly. (1) EA s University Scholarships will be paid annually for the student s course of study, which covers course and miscellaneous fees, recommended texts, exam fees and other ancillary costs related to completion of the course. These costs will be specified by the EA Education Selection Panel and may be reviewed on a periodic basis. (2) The Scholarship covers 3 years of study, capped at $10,000 per year, thus $30,000 in total for 3 years. Funding for 4-year courses will be considered by the Panel on a case-by-case basis. (3) Selected students will be expected to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours per year in EA events and activities, to help in our key pillars of education, family support services and community engagement. (4) The Scholarship will only cover approved courses, excluding Medicine and Dentistry. (5) Continuation of funding will be dependent on each academic year s final exam results as well as completion of the volunteer hours.
