5 System Integration an Optimization Model (SIOM) TNO develops structural greenhouse design tool CASTA/Greenhouse since 1990,present day 50 users, World wide demand for high tech greenhouses is increasing Greenhouse concept has to be optimized for local circumstances Together with supplying industry TNO developed a decision support system SIOM to help greenhouse builders to design the optimal solution End 2014 first beta version shipped to key users

7 Aquatop greenhouse Thin water film on top of greenhouse used for Greenhouse cooling in summer Less energy losses in winter Optimize light transmittance of greenhouse by adding additives like chalk or iron sulphate Can be used on regular greenhouse or on flat roofed greenhouses Technical system: Buffer tank Piping system in greenhouse ridge Seasonal heat/cold storage in soil Optional: heat pump / flat roof

10 Flowdeck greenhouse (2) Advantages Additional light transmission Better growing conditions (radiation cooling / heating) Closed system, able to use additives Disadvantages Investment costs in relation to energy saving Product development needed wrt polycarbonate sheets

11 Opportunity Spanish situation Flowdeck can be used to realize sustainable greenhouses in Spanish highland area. First analysis using SIOM results in: Daytime: Condensation of humidity to cold flowdeck Better growing climate (active cooling) Good light transmittance, can be diffused Nighttime: Heating using flowdeck, preventing condensation in crop (disease) Regenerating cold buffer tank
