What s Next? Making a claim: Benefits are claimed by completing application forms and taking or sending them to the relevant benefits offices. This can be confusing so ask for advice either from your local CAB, Welfare Rights Service, the Benefit Enquiry Line or an appropriate professional. Do not delay in making a claim, because you do not have all the information. Certain benefits can start on the date you first contact your local benefits office in person, by letter or by phone. Send your claim in as soon as possible; if evidence is required further information to explain this will follow. Keep copies of any letters or forms you have sent and of those you receive. You may need these if you wish to challenge a decision. Remember to notify the relevant benefits department if your circumstances change.
