Our theme for this month is FOLLOW JESUS! Memory Verse: John 12:26 Jesus said, Follow me! We will be learning that Young Jesus went to the temple (the church building) to listen to Gods word and learn about God! If we want to follow Jesus, we should go to church too! (Luke 2:41-52, Luke 4:14-22)

January Lesson Plans for WALKERS Lesson: Read aloud the story boards, Young Jesus Goes to Church. Tell the children, Follow Jesus! Ask, Where did Jesus go? (to the Church Building) Say, Follow Jesus and go to Songs: THIS IS THE WAY WE GO TO CHURCH (Sing to the tune of Here We go Round the Mulberry Bush) This is the way we go to church, go to church, go to church This is the way we go to church, Every Sunday morning! January Lesson Plans for BACKPACKERS Week 1 - Lesson: Read the bible story Lost! Found in the White Beginners Bible, Pages 304-309 Emphasize that Jesus went to church and we are following Jesus so we go to *Catch the Mouse Game- You ll need two balls for the game, a small one and a large one. Have children sit on the floor, they will use their feet and legs to move the small ball or mouse around the circle. Once the mouse makes it back home, to the original person, introduce the cat. The cat is the larger ball. The mouse has to move around the circle without being passed by the cat. (This is just a fun game you can remind children that they came to church and followed Jesus and even played a fun game!) *Coloring Sheet *Free play with toys Week 2- Lesson: Read the bible story on page 26-31 from the Beginners Bible Family Favorites. Emphasize that Jesus went to church and we are following Jesus so we go to * Trace the children s feet onto construction paper. Allow each child to color on his/her paper. Write on the paper, (name of child) follows Jesus! *What can you do?... We can do it too! Game- Have the children stand in a circle. Start with one children s minister in the middle of the circle. Everyone chants What can you do? (3 times). Then the person in the middle does something (i.e. claps hands, jumps up and down). Then the people in the circle say we can do it too! ( and they do the same action!) The person in the center then picks someone else to be in the center and they go out to join the circle. Make sure all children who want a turn in the center of the circle have a chance. Also try to encourage the person in the center to do something different then the people who went before them!) *Free play with toys

Week 3- Lesson: Read Taller & Wiser bible story found in The Young Readers Bible pages 256-261. Emphasize that Jesus went to church and we are following Jesus so we go to *Color by Number activity sheet *Ask the children about What can you do game? from last week play that game a gain or the Catch the Mouse game from week 1. Week 4- Lesson: Read Young Jesus in the Temple bible story from Read & Learn Bible pages 268-272. Emphasize that Jesus went to church and we are following Jesus so we go to *Coloring Sheet * Hula Hoop Game- You ll need four or five large Hula Hoops to start this game. When the game starts have all the children gather together inside the Hula Hoops. Do this while the music plays. Remove the hoop and tell kids they have to squeeze into the other hoops or at least hold on to one. Keep going until you have one hoop and all your class inside and outside. Kids will work together to include everyone. * Free Play with Toys
