Performance Monitoring and SLA Assurance Benefits Introducing Blue Planet Cyan Blue Planet is the first purpose-built Software-Defined Network (SDN) platform enabling service providers to simplify the development, deployment, and orchestration of network-based services. Blue Planet makes it easy to design, operate, and view networks and services in small or large deployments of Cyan Z-Series and third-party network elements. Blue Planet is a scalable system with open APIs to enable service deployment and application development in a multi-vendor network environment. Planet View is the performance monitoring and SLA assurance application for the Cyan Blue Planet SDN platform. Ethernet service differentiation by providing endcustomers with real-time and historical SLA and performance assurance Low-effort and low-cost implementation facilitated by cloud-based deployment model Integrated with Google Maps for intuitive, accurate views of the service footprint Open, multi-vendor support for more than 45 network devices from 15 different manufacturers Supports a broad range of network technologies, including Ethernet Y.1731, IP SLAs, and OTN Enables capacity planning and allows more effective upselling of new services

Innovative Service Assurance The Planet View application provides groundbreaking performance monitoring and SLA assurance service for Carrier Ethernet and optical networks. As a powerful cloud-enabled resource, Planet View provides proactive SLA monitoring and reporting in multi-vendor networks for service providers and their customers via an easy-to-use portal. By simplifying SLA compliance management and verification, Planet View allows service providers to deliver differentiated Ethernet services that enhance the customer experience while increasing revenue. Planet View s customer-specific metrics also reduce operating costs by resolving issues more quickly and improving SLA conformance while allowing targeted upselling of new services. Differentiated Ethernet Services Planet View s end-to-end SLA performance monitoring and reporting capabilities help service providers differentiate Ethernet services such as business Ethernet, wireless backhaul, and wholesale transport. Planet View allows service providers to offer their end-customers real-time insight into the status and performance of critical Ethernet services. Furthermore, operators can choose to extend dynamic bandwidth controls through Planet View. This compelling differentiator can enhance the customer experience as a high-margin, value-added service, or as a bundled component of a premium service offering. Planet View can also monitor off-net Ethernet services provided by wholesale partners to verify that SLA commitments are being met. Enhanced Visibility Planet View provides customized performance monitoring portal views for individual endcustomers and internal users. Real-time and historical service performance data is presented in Planet View utilizing customer-specific, virtual network views at the service layer, as well as tabular and graphical reports, including specific reporting formats required by Tier-1 wireless carriers. TCA Monitoring and Northbound Integration Planet View offers a rich set of features to manage threshold-crossing alerts (TCAs) and forwarding them to a northbound fault management system. Users can define threshold profiles based on various SLA metrics and apply those profiles to services or a market. When a threshold is crossed, Planet View can email designated recipients or generate an SNMP trap and forward it to an SNMP-capable fault management system. Robust Reporting Planet View offers powerful reporting capabilities for services, markets, wireless backhaul, worst offenders, and more. These tabular and graphical data reports can be exported in PDF and CSV formats. Reports can also be scheduled and emailed to designated recipients. 2013, Cyan, Inc. Page 2

Bandwidth Management and Service-Level Test The dynamic bandwidth management feature of Planet View allows bandwidth adjustment for subscribers and allows service providers to price services incrementally. Users can adjust MEF bandwidth profile parameters CIR and EIR directly from Planet View to manage service bandwidth on the device. In addition, Planet View supports RFC 2544 and loopback testing to facilitate commissioning, acceptance testing, services turn-up/birth certificate, maintenance, and trouble shooting. (Note that these features are only available on select devices.) Multi-Vendor, Multi-Technology Solution Another key differentiator of Planet View is its ability to provide detailed SLA performance reporting information across multi-vendor network environments. Naturally, Blue Planet and the Planet View work in combination with the Cyan Z-Series family of packet-optical transport platforms. Planet View also supports SLA monitoring of equipment from 15 other manufacturers, including Blue Orbit partners such as Accedian, Overture, and RAD. Planet View is designed to support a broad range of SLAs and other performance management parameters. Planet View supports Ethernet-based SLA performance reporting using the Y.1731 Ethernet OAM standards, IP SLAs from layer 3 devices, optical/otn parameters, certain ATM parameters, and more. Planet View and the other Blue Planet applications Planet Design, Planet Operate, and Planet Inventory will continually evolve and expand to support a broader range of network monitoring technologies and standards-compliant products. Flexible, Rapid Deployment The Blue Planet SDN platform runs in a distributed computing environment. Planet View is a cloudenabled application that may be deployed in a Software as a Service (SaaS) capacity. This approach minimizes service provider IT expenditures and requires no upfront licensing fees, thereby accelerating the service delivery process and reducing costs. With this operational architecture, performance monitoring data from network elements is captured by the metrics collector on a Cyan-provided appliance, which then forwards the data to the Planet View application running in the cloud. Planet View then partitions the data by customer/user and makes it accessible via a secure login. 2013, Cyan, Inc. Page 3

Key Deployment Scenarios The proactive SLA monitoring and reporting capabilities provided by Planet View apply to a variety of applications. Business Ethernet Services. Planet View allows service providers to offer Enterprise customers realtime insight into the status and performance of their business Ethernet services via an easy-to-use web portal. Planet View s visibility into the status and performance of the network allows IT managers to be more informed and effective in serving their internal customers, which elevates the service provider relationship from one a bandwidth supplier to a service partner. Wireless Backhaul. Service providers can utilize Planet View to provide wireless carriers real-time visibility into the backhaul services between cell towers and the mobile switching center and verify that SLAs are being met. Planet View provides these wireless service providers with the network performance visibility they need to manage rapidly evolving traffic patterns and support their mobile service customers more effectively. Wholesale Transport. With Planet View, service providers can assist their wholesale customers in satisfying their own SLA commitments. Proactive SLA monitoring and reporting can differentiate wholesale services for increased customer satisfaction and to help achieve the status of a preferred wholesale partner. Planet View can be bundled with premium Ethernet wholesale services or offered as a high-margin, value-added service. Off-net Ethernet Service Monitoring. Service providers should request Planet View s real-time SLA reporting capabilities from their wholesale service provider partners. When Planet View is not yet available, the primary service provider can utilize their own Blue Planet deployment in conjunction with Ethernet NIDs (network interface devices) to monitor off-net Ethernet circuits provided by wholesale partners to verify that SLA commitments are being met.
