The LED light (2) should start blinking blue which shows you that Roadie is looking for a Bluetooth connection. 3. Next, make sure that Bluetooth is activated on your mobile device: Go to Settings -> Bluetooth -> On. 4. Launch the Roadie Tuner app on your mobile device and the LED light (2) on Roadie should turn solid blue indicating a successful Bluetooth connection. Notice that no Bluetooth pairing is 5
required to connect Roadie to your mobile device. 5. Create a new instrument by following the prompts on the screen. 6. Once you successfully add your instrument, it s time to calibrate each string. Calibration is a simple process by which Roadie learns about your instrument and each of its strings in order to tune as efficiently as possible. To calibrate a string: A. Press the calibrate button next to that string on the app. B. Connect the peg connector (3) to the corresponding peg of the string being calibrated. C. Pluck that string until the progress bar on the screen fills up. D. Once full, Roadie will then tune that string using what it learned. Repeat this process until all strings are successfully calibrated and tuned. Tuning your instrument 6 1. Open the Roadie Tuner app. 2. Select the instrument you are tuning. 3. Select the string you are tuning and connect the peg
connector (3) to the corresponding peg of the string being tuned. 5. Pluck the string being tuned while firmly holding Roadie on the tuning peg at all times. 6. The circles near the top of the mobile app should light up red to indicate that a note is heard. Roadie will now start turning the peg to perfectly tune your instrument. Tip: For faster tuning of a whole instrument, use the Sequential tuning feature on the mobile app that runs you through all the strings of your instrument sequentially in a hands-free fashion. To use this feature, press the S button in the upper right of the mobile app. You will see it turn red S and tuning will begin automatically. Note: if you are tuning an electric guitar, you can plug it directly to your mobile device using the Roadie Jack (7). This allows for a silent tuning and removes any possibility of outside noise affecting your tuning. Make sure that the volume knob on your electric guitar is set to maximum. 7
Re-stringing using Roadie Roadie works as a string winder/unwinder in addition to all its other features. To continuously rotate Roadie s peg connector, use the WIND/UNWIND section of the mobile app or the wind/unwind buttons (4) on Roadie s side. Roadie operates on a 3.7V 500mAh Lithium Polymer battery. When the battery is low you should charge it through the micro-usb charging port (5). When charging, the LED indicator (6) turns red. When the charging LED indicator (6) turns green, it means that the battery is fully charged. In that case you should unplug the micro-usb cable (C). To ensure maximum battery life and protection, Roadie will not work when charging. LED light This is how Roadie communicates with the external world: When turned on, the LED light blinks blue. When battery is low, the LED light blinks red. When Roadie is connected to your mobile device, the LED light turns solid blue. When tuning or calibrating a string, the LED light turns solid green. When there is an error, the LED light turns solid 9
red. Beyond the Basics For more info, visual step-by-step guides, video tutorials, troubleshooting, and other useful materials please check the online tutorial at www.roadietuner.com/tutorial D Troubleshooting Bluetooth connection You do not need to pair your mobile device with Roadie in the settings menu. To connect to Roadie, simply follow these two easy steps: 1. Switch Roadie on. 2. Launch Roadie app and go to your instrument page. For more info check the Getting Started -> Using Roadie for the first time section above Mic sensitivity and noise levels Depending on where you are tuning, outside noise 10
may need to be taken into account. When tuning in exceptionally noisy or quiet environments, try changing the phone's audio sensitivity by moving the Mic Sensitivity slider to the left towards Quiet to increase sensitivity or to the right towards Noisy to decrease it as shown on the picture on the side. No more than 1-2 red circles should light up on the screen when you are not plucking a string. When plucking a string, you should see 3-5 circles light up. If you see 3-5 circles light up when you are not plucking a string, move the Mic Sensitivity slider towards Noisy. Hard reset If Roadie becomes unresponsive, a hard reset is required. Simply insert a pin into the reset pin (7) hole and press the button within to reset Roadie. This will have no effect on the mobile app or its data. All your settings and instruments will remain untouched. 11
E F Warnings Roadie is designed and tested to work with stringed instruments equipped with geared tuning pegs similar to those of the guitar. If you notice that Roadie s motor is struggling to rotate the pegs, this might be because your pegs are rusty.
