Right With God Copyright Andrew J. Shreeve 2006 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the right eousness of God in him 2 Corinthians 5:21 The above verse is talking about God making us a new creation. That we might be made the righteousness of God in him, that we might be recreated in Christ Jesus. God is making us something new. God is recreating us to be the righteousness of God. What an awesome statement, God is making humans right with himself. God is removing our conscience of sins and reconnecting us back to him (Hebrews 10:2). When will this great event take place, when will we sinful humans be remade, in Christ, into the righteousness of God, totally accepted by the holy awesome creator of the universe? Verse 17 gives us the context of this statement and the timing of the new creation. 1 / 7
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new 2 Corinthians 5:17 The righteous new creation takes place when we become a new creature, when we come into Christ! If we are in Christ we are a new creation. We are a new creation made the righteousness of God. What a profound and wonderful truth! Any human can become right with God simply by being in Christ. The obvious question is how can I get in Christ so I can receive this gift of righteousness (Romans 5:17)? 3 Elements to becoming righteousness - faith in Jesus blood to remit our sins (Romans 3:25) - belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (Romans 10:9) - confession of Jesus Christ as Lord of our lives (Romans 10:10) Coming into Christ is what is referred to as being born again (John 3:3, 5, 7; 1 Peter 1:23). Being born again is a spiritual event. It is when our spirit is remade and placed into the spiritual body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:13). Only a new holy and righteous spirit can be placed into the body of Christ, for Christ is holy and righteous. 2 / 7
Yea are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light 1 Peter 2:9 Christians are the holy nation of Christ. Sometimes we don t see ourselves as God sees us, as holy. This is because we tend to look and perceive truth from our natural observation rather than first looking at the spiritual truth in the Word of God. A right division and understanding of the human being is also helpful in knowing how we have become holy. A human is triune - spirit, soul, and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). It is only our spirit which has been re-made, our soul (mind, will, and emotions) and body have not been recreated. When we focus on our body or soul we will see our sinfulness. If we focus on our spirit we will see our holiness. We are a spirit, we live in a body, and we have a soul. It is our spirit which has been re-made holy and placed into Christ! In fact our spirit has been elevated to the right hand of the Father in heaven (there is no distance in the spirit realm). He raised him from the dead and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places Ephesians 1:20 3 / 7
And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus Ephesians 2:6 We know that our bodies are on this earth and not in heaven, therefore the above Scripture is referring to our spirit being raised in Christ. Our spirit has been placed in Christ at the right hand of the Father in heaven. We are in a righteous position, a position of privilege, holiness, authority, and power. This is very important to know and understand as an understanding of righteousness is foundational for operating in faith and also for exercising authority over the enemy. The Scripture says to take on this righteous and holy mindset; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness Ephesians 4:23-24 4 / 7
The new creation, the born again spirit, is righteous and holy. Praise the Lord! This is a wonderful revelation as it gives us total acceptance from the Lord. We no longer fear his rejection. This allows us to draw near to God with a true heart in full assurance of faith (Hebrews 10:22) opening ourselves fully to him, trusting in the faithfulness of his Word that he will not suddenly cast us from his loving presence. For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee Isaiah 54:10 What a beautiful gospel, what a wonderful saviour, what a complete work of redemption Christ has attained for us, what joy to celebrate the victory of righteousness! Our faith in Christ has made us a new creation with a new righteous, and holy, spirit. We are seated in the place of righteousness, in Christ Jesus, at the right hand of the Father God. This truth of righteousness and acceptance in God is not based on our good or bad deeds as righteousness is attained through faith in Christ alone (Romans 3:21-22). 5 / 7
Being justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ Romans 5:1 It is the blood of Jesus that has remitted all our sins and purified us. It is our faith in that blood that appropriates the work that Jesus has done (Romans 3:25, 28). We are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all for by one offering he hath perfected forever them that are sanctified their sins and iniquities will I remember no more Hebrews 10:10, 14, 17 Receive by faith your righteousness. Jesus has given it to you. Allow no man, or devil, to steal your blood bought right to righteousness with God through faith in Christ Jesus. This is our right regardless of our weaknesses, sins, or frailty. Celebrate the mercy, love and goodness of God. Worship him with a true heart of gratitude. 6 / 7
