InfoScan Intelligent SCADA Solutions
Critical Control for Critical Systems Saves Time. Saves Money. Provides Peace of Mind. Water and Wastewater InfoScan is a reliable, flexible and accurate method for monitoring and controlling municipal water and wastewater systems. Operational malfunctions are immediately detected and addressed to avoid costly spills, overflows or contaminations. Central tracking of chemical use and power consumption paves the way for greater efficiencies and cost savings. Real-time monitoring of lift stations reduces the required physical check labor, cutting costs by as much as 85%. Energy Conservation InfoScan technology has been integrated with the workspace and support elements to create environments that are more operationally efficient and occupant friendly. In both large and small facilities, InfoScan intelligence produces benefits ranging from using less energy to improved indoor environments, providing a significant return on investment. Facility Security The InfoScan Security System can alert you to intrusion or tampering at elevated water tanks, pumping stations, well houses and other structures. Video monitoring is also available for critical locations.
The Growing Need for Automated Control Systems Today s municipalities are faced with ever more burdensome regulatory requirements that require accurate data collection and reporting of abnormal operating conditions. At the same time, they face increasing pressure to identify and implement cost-saving efficiencies. The solution a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) product to provide centralized control and monitoring of water, wastewater and other critical systems. What Is the Best SCADA System for Your Needs? Municipalities are often aware of two choices: buy a generic software and adapt to it, or build a one-of-a-kind system and struggle to maintain it. For many users, neither option is acceptable. Dorsett Technologies InfoScan is a single-source solution providing fully integrated hardware and software with unparalleled flexibility and scalability. InfoScan continuously monitors and controls critical systems including operational malfunctions, water chemistry changes and lift stations. It automates and validates tasks that utility plant operators perform on a repetitive basis, which leads to a reduction in operational costs while improving efficiencies. What Is a Single-Source Solution? Don t be mislead by system integrators. Single-source simply means that we design and manufacture our own hardware and software. InfoScan uses industry standard components and architecture. It operates on PC hardware and software and is Microsoft Windows-based for quick system navigation. Our reliable field hardware has a proven track record for longevity, even in harsh conditions. Our RTUs and field controllers feature industry standard input/output compatibility and interface with all standard instrumentation, helping to preserve your investments in training and hardware. Most importantly, being a single-source solution means we support our hardware and software for as long as you own it so it will never become obsolete or incompatible. Guaranteed. How Does InfoScan Work? Water/ Wastewater Energy Management Security Multiple sensors and control devices relay data to Remote Terminal Units (RTUs). The RTUs collect the data and transmit it to the InfoScan database. RTU RTU RTU InfoScan sends alerts and reports data in real time to the appropriate personnel via internet, phone, SMS and email. If a critical response is needed, InfoScan sends real-time control information back to the RTU to initiate automated emergency control procedures. Internet InfoScan Database Internet This automated response saves valuable time in a critical system emergency. Workstations and Remote Locations Mobile Devices WiFi Enabled Devices

Myths & Realities: Clearing Up Some Common Confusions The term proprietary continues to be one of the most misunderstood and prevalent sales gimmicks in this industry. You are likely to hear it as you consider various sources for your SCADA system. Here are some of the myths or misrepresentations you may encounter along with the realities about the benefits of Dorsett Technologies single source solution. Non-Proprietary Open System Myth Any System Integrator can work on it PLCs are open and readily supported Single Source Solution Integrated System Expandable Lower Cost Reality While in theory this should be the case, more often than not it isn t. Simply because a standard PLC and a standard HMI is used, this in no way ensures another integrator can come in and work on the existing system, unless of course the integrator and everyone who has since worked on the system has properly documented, backed up, and placed in the care of the owner the required database files and documentation. While employing a standard protocol may be labeled open, expertise is required to interface open devices, and none have evolved to the point of plug and play. Normally, PLCs have a useful service and support life of 5-7 years from the manufacturer before losing factory support. Upgrading by replacement is normally required. Anything but! Even if you do have a single contractor, chances are you won t have a single source solution. Why? Because all components are from different manufacturers, with different warranties, service policies, RMA procedures and so on. Many times, a single source turns into a single person solution and, just your luck, when you call them you find they re on vacation! PLCs and a HMI from different vendors constitute an interfaced not integrated system. Moreover, integrators do not usually possess the specialized skills required to fully and holistically integrate SCADA components. Oftentimes this is sold, but not delivered in actuality. Many HMIs can require development and runtime licenses for a group of a few hundred tags (points). In addition to this added expense, oftentimes a need of a single software module not provided in the original system can trigger a costly and unwanted total software upgrade at even bigger expense. While initial cost is sometimes a factor in a purchasing decision, one should always consider LIFE CYCLE COST, meaning the cost over the life of the system. When you factor in maintenance, support, license, programming, repair, replacement, updates, upgrades, and training costs, the cost of a system can look quite different, especially if it only has an expected operational life of 5-7 years. InfoScan Solution Myth No one can work on it but Dorsett Technologies Parts are available from only one source Proprietary Products Customized System Higher Cost Reality Anyone can work on InfoScan! Naturally, some training is needed, but we provide that to you or anyone else you want to work on your system. We work to enable you to grow your ability to support yourself. Of course, we are always happy to provide any support you may want or need. With the exception of the items Dorsett manufactures, all of our parts are second sourced and available from multiple sources. As far as our parts go, we always strive to ensure you have critical spares on site. Moreover, should you desire to replace a Dorsett part with another vendor s equipment, our use of standards ensures your success. InfoScan products were some of the first to adopt open standards with the implementation of BACnet 11 years ago. In fact, we were the 21st vendor worldwide to adopt this protocol. In addition to BACnet, we also utilize MODBUS and Johnson Controls N2 Open protocols to ensure open connectability with hundreds of other device and equipment manufacturers products. Every InfoScan system has the exact same software that includes every module and program we build. We tailor the application of our very standard product to each customer s specific needs to address their issues. We don t make the cheapest SCADA system, but we do make the best, both at the time of purchase and even 15+ years down the road. With some other systems, you can face major replacement costs in as few as five years after purchase. We have a much lower lifecycle cost! 800-331-7605 FAX: 336-679-8811 dorsett-tech.com info@dorsett-tech.com
