INTRODUCTION The demography of the world population shows a trend that the elderly population worldwide is increasing rapidly as a result of the increase of the average life expectancy of people. Caring for and supporting this growing population is a concern for governments and nations around the globe. Home automation is one of the major growing industries that can change the way people live. Some of these home automation systems target those seeking luxury and sophisticated home automation platforms; others target those with special needs like the elderly and the disabled. A typical wireless home automation system allows one to control house hold appliances from a centralized control unit which is wireless. These appliances usually have to be specially designed to be compatible with each other and with the control unit for most commercially available home automation systems. The project demonstrates a system that can be integrated as a single portable unit and allows one to wirelessly control lights, fans, air conditioners, television sets, security cameras, electronic doors, computer systems, audio/visual equipment's etc. and turn on or off any appliance that is plugged into a wall outlet, get the status of different sensors and take decision accordingly. The overall system is controlled from a microphone which is connected with HM 2007 speech recognition chip. This chip sends the voice commands in binary sequence to microcontroller. The base station unit takes decision and sends the commands to remote station by ZigBee transceiver. The remote system receives the commands through ZigBee transceiver and performs the request function. The sensors unit is capable of detecting when the user enters or leaves the room by measuring the change in signals strength between the access Point and can accordingly turn on or off appliances such as lights and fans and in the meantime send its status back to base station. Rest of the paper is organized as follows; Section II gives literature survey that had been conducted. Section III describes theoretical background related to the project. Experimented results are provided in Section IV, followed by conclusion in Section V. LITERATURE REVIEW A literature review or study forms an essential part of many projects. It shows that the researcher has read material on the subject of the project, and that the researcher are comfortable with the terms, concepts and theories surrounding the chosen area of research, and will ensure that the researcher is not duplicating research that has gone before. Tan Chow Pin has worked on intelligent home automation System is a mobile web based application that allows users to monitor and control home/office appliance using their mobile device. This system includes the remote control and monitoring of domestic appliances, security and energy management. Once all appliances in an office are automated and connected, it becomes important to consider issues of security, authentication and access control. The purpose of research, particularly literature review is to collect data. Through this literature review, scope of project and user requirements can be retrieved whether how big the project is. The use of a methodology helps to produce a better quality product, in terms of documentation standards, acceptability to the user, maintainability and consistency of software. A methodology can help to ensure that user requirements are met completely. Waterfall model has been chosen as a methodology for this project and will be implemented along the system development process to ensure the objectives of the project can be fulfilled. Michal Varchola presented the first results and experiences associated with ZigBee based wireless sensor networking. The accent was put on suitable chipset platform selection for Home Automation wireless network purposes. Four popular microcontrollers were selected to investigate memory requirements and power consumption such as ARM, x51, HCS08, and Coldfire. A simple network based on ZigBee physical layer as well as ZigBee compliant network were made to confirm the basic ZigBee interoperability. In today's world technology is available for home automation but these technologies are incompatible with each other and addresses only communication and physical media, the main objective of this work is to facilitate the user to control appliances by two ways one is remotely via voice command, second is using remote control to control the appliances which is also an override control. THEORETICAL BACKGROUND Home Automation is a concept that has been developing reasonably slowly when you compare it to how other technology such as televisions have progressed. Whereas other technologies such as highdefinition televisions have developed and become much cheaper, home automation is still generally quite 2
an expensive and exclusive concept for most people. Main aim is to tell what Home Automation is and what current technologies exist. This report gives information about how technologies are currently implemented and the groups of people that will use the technologies. It is focused at the use of automation as a disability aid as well as being a luxury within a home. Home automation is the residential extension of building automation. It is automation of the home, housework or household activity. Home automation may include centralized control of lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), appliances, security locks of gates and doors and other systems, to provide improved convenience, comfort, energy efficiency and security. Home automation for the elderly and disabled can provide increased quality of life for persons who might otherwise require caregivers or institutional care. The popularity of home automation has been increasing greatly in recent years due to much higher affordability and simplicity through Smartphone and tablet connectivity. The concept of the "Internet of Things" has tied in closely with the popularization of home automation. A home automation system integrates electrical devices in a house with each other. The techniques employed in home automation include those in building automation as well as the control of domestic activities, such as home entertainment systems, houseplant and yard watering, pet feeding, changing the ambiance "scenes" for different events (such as dinners or parties), and the use of domestic robots. Devices may be connected through a home network to allow control by a personal computer, and may allow remote access from the internet. Through the integration of information technologies with the home environment, systems and appliances are able to communication an integrated manner which results in convenience, energy efficiency, and safety benefits. A.CODING PROCESS Dumping of the code on to the AVR chip by converting the code into hexadecimal form takes place through a process which is described in the following block diagram. STEP 1: The program code is first written in code vision AVR software. STEP 2: The code written is built and converted into hexadecimal form. STEP 3: Dump the hexadecimal code onto the AVR chip using SINAPROG serial transmission. STEP 4: Repeat the above steps for the AVR chip at receiving end. STEP 5: Train the HM2007 kit using various commands as per the instruction module. Fig 1. Flowchart 3
B.IMPLEMENTATION Various steps to get the desired output are explained as follows: STEP 1: Connect all necessary electrical connections at transmitter and receiver end. STEP 2: Give vocal commands to HM2007 using a microphone. STEP 3: Signal transmission from transmitter end to receiver end and desired output is generated. EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS The commands below when shown on LED screen have respective meanings: CONCLUSION Fig 2. Flowchart. Proposed method is designed using HM2007 kit for different vocal signals and converting simple code into hexadecimal code using CODE VISION AVR, SINAPROG serial transmission is used for dumping program into AVR chip. We can save 20 commands at a time in which we have used 10 commands which are as follows: 01 1 ON (First light gets ON). 02-2 ON (Second light gets ON). 03-3 ON (Third light gets ON). 04-4 ON (Motor gets ON). 05-1 OFF (First light gets OFF). 06-2 OFF (Second light gets OFF). 07-3 OFF (Third light gets OFF). 08-4 OFF (Motor gets OFF). 09 All ON (All lights and motor gets ON). 10- All OFF (All lights and motor gets OFF). 66 This digit when displayed on led display tells that the word we are using to train is too short. 55- This digit when displayed on led display tells that the word we are using to train is too long. 77- This digit when displayed on led display tells that there is no match of word which we want to make use of to get a desired output. 99-This command is written on the screen and clear button is pressed to clear the memory of HM2007. Voice recognition Wireless Home Automation Based on ZigBee is a very useful project for the adults and physically disabled persons, who are not able to do various activities efficiently when they are at home and need one's assistant to perform those tasks. With the Voice Recognition along with ZigBee network we can eliminate the complication of wiring in case of wired automation and also it prevent to get up and down again and again to on/off appliances. ZigBee Home Automation provides operating range much higher as compared to Bluetooth and other wireless sensor module.with the use of ZigBee Home Automation circuit considerable amount of power saving is possible and it is flexible and compatible with future technologies so it can be easily customized for individual requirements. On the other hand with voice 4
recognition system, it provides secure access to home. So when we are living in a fast world where everything is changing with in no time such security is essential. REFERENCES 1.Dhawan S.
