Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) This PDF document provides supplemental information for the book Samsung Galaxy Tab for SENIORS. If you turn your Tab sideways (landscape view), your screens may look a little different and the buttons (icons) may move to another location on your screen. In that case use the button or option that most closely fits the one being described in the text. 1. The Samsung Galaxy Tab The Main Components of the Samsung Galaxy Tab In the following diagrams you see the main components of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0). Press and hold the Power/Lock key and the Volume Down key at the same time for a few seconds Basic Operations on the Samsung Galaxy Tab You can open the Notifications panel on the Tab 2 (7.0) in the following way: Touch the top of the screen and swipe downward to display
Here you see the Notifications panel. You will also see information about the status of your Tab and you can adjust settings if needed. You open the Settings app like this: Or from the Home screen: The option to set the auto-rotate function that would allow you to keep your screen in your preferred orientation (portrait or landscape) when rotated is no longer available in the Tab 2 (7.0). Working with the Onscreen Keyboard With the Tab 2 (7.0) you use the Apps icon instead of to see the list of all available apps that you can open. If you don t see a particular app right away, it may be placed on one of the other pages containing apps. In that case: Swipe your finger from left to right over the screen the the desired app icon The onscreen keyboard looks a little different when compared to the one on the Tab 2 (10.1). The keys have a slightly different color and design, but they function the same.
Creating and Adding a Google Account If you are in the process of creating a Google account on the Tab 2 (7.0), use the Tips icon to navigate to the next screen. Tip Securing your device with an unlock pattern A screen unlock pattern is a touch gesture you create and use to unlock your device. To find the settings to enable a personal screen unlock pattern, go to your Home screen and do the following:,, Tip Enable Google Voice typing to enter text On the Tab 2 (7.0) you can set various input methods. To enable voice typing: the top of the screen with your finger and swipe downward, 2. Using Email with Your Tablet Sending an Email Message The predictive text option may not work exactly as described in your book. Look carefully at any suggestions given, tap the suggested word if it is what you want, or continue typing until the desired text is complete. If the following: icon is not displayed, you can make it visible again by doing the the icon in the top right of your screen

A number of screens containing information about the Google Now service may appear. Next when prompted, three more times Maybe later in the last screen If Wi-Fi is turned off, the Google app can search only the content of your Tab. Otherwise a search is done using the Internet as well. In the following example a search is being done to look for a contact: Type: m You will see a few suggested terms that can be used to search the Internet: Underneath these terms, a number of apps will appear: Type: ic In this example a contact s name has been found:
Closing apps You close an app like this: You will see all the apps you have recently used. If you want to close a particular app: Place your finger on the app s icon The Application manager screen opens with an overview of your current active applications. If you want to close an app: If you want to close all of the apps that are currently open: Tips Tip Start a video chat with Hangouts Google Talk is no longer available for the Tab 2. The new Hangouts app has taken its place. You can carry out a video conversation on the Tab 2 with this handy app. To use this app you must be connected to the Internet and have a Google account. If you do not yet have a Google account, read how to obtain one in section 1.11 Creating and Adding a Google Account. The person you want to contact also needs to have a Google account and be a Hangouts user. Start by opening the Hangouts app:, Now you invite one of your contacts to become a friend in Hangouts: one of your contacts
The invitation is sent. As soon as your contact accepts the invitation, you can engage in a video or text chat: the contact An attempt is made to open a connection. You will hear the sound of a telephone and you will see an image from your Tab s camera. If your contact accepts the video call, you will see and hear him or her. You can use the icon to turn off or adjust the sound of the microphone. If you want to end the chat: You can tap the icon to use the camera on the rear side of your Tab. In this way, you can engage in a video conversation with contacts from all over the world. It is also possible to use the free Skype app for making video or audio calls or as an instant messaging service. The person you want to contact will need to be a Skype user as well. You can download this app in the Play Store. 5. Downloading Apps Setting a PIN Code for Purchasing If have a credit card associated with your Google account, it makes it very easy to make purchases in the Play Store. You can prevent unintended purchases by enabling password protection. It is possible that password protection is already enabled. If that is not the case you can set it up. The option has been replaced by. If a checkmark appears, than the option is already enabled. If you do not see a checkmark, you can set one like this: Type the password
