Grupo SCT wants to help you on the journey for a -one in a life time opportunity- This document is presented as a Guide for you to be prepared and informed in what to expect regarding job opportunities on a Cruise Ship It is not intended for this document to be an official Cruise Lines' Recruitment Guide, but to help you understand a little bit better the whole process Some steps, tips or information provided could vary depending on external situations and each application could be different Please, make sure you read and understand this guide BEFORE starting your application process

Welcome to an exciting application process!!! Working in a cruise ship is one of the most exciting experiences you could aim for: You get paid to visit exotic and beautiful destinations Opportunity to earn great income and tips Share with people from different nationalities and make new friends from all over the world Learn and work from a 5 star environment Work in a very different scenario Travel in a safe and low risk way than backpacking by yourself Build your career learning new skills and developing new work experiences You will definitely have amazing memories and stories to tell to your family and friends However since this is all true, you should also consider some "worse case" scenarios, just to make sure you really want to be a crew member and continue with your application There is a possibility that you do not have to go through this situations, but it is better if you have an idea of what you might come up against so you are prepared Could you work 7 days a week if necessary? Yes, you will have time to visit the destinations the ship docks at, however during some weeks, you may have to work 7 days straight on Would you be bothered if your cabin mate has a different sexual preference than yours? Cruise lines usually have a high population of gay staff (men and women) If you do not like the idea of sharing your cabin with someone with a different preference, then working on a cruise ship is not an option How would you react to being told to start work during your time off? Sometimes for reasons out of the Captains control (hurricanes, problems onboard or conflicts in countries), the ship has to change itinerary and you may be asked to be on duty

Could you be away from your family and friends with limited communication from 6 to 8 months? It is perfectly normal to get homesick at very beginning since it could be hard to get used to this new experience, but will you get through this period and be perfectly fine with missing home? Could you live, work and socialize with your work colleagues 24/7? If you are someone that gets easily irritated by people habits and annoying personality traits, then maybe this is not for you If your approach is a positive and broadminded one, then you will survive! Can you deal with very strict rules and regulations? Around 80% of rules and regulations onboard are for safety reasons and this is the number one priority on a cruise ship You have to be willing to follow certain orders or procedures even if you are not comfortable with them Could you cope with finding your cabin mate with someone in bed? It is inevitable that people will meet partners and develop intimate relationships and we are human, so if you are bothered by this, then maybe this lifestyle is not for you If you are good with most of this questions, just work on the ones you are not quite comfortable to develop a different approach to this situations and you are good to go!

Applying for a job opportunity in a cruise ship is like applying for any another job, however, to have the most chances to be selected among thousands of candidates around the world, you want to make sure to prepare your application in the best possible way We aim for you to succeed in your process, reason why we provide the following steps (so you know what you are going to go through) and some instructions that you have to carefully follow in order for you to have the best chances Please, take in consideration that this is a long process that could take up to 3 to 4 months for you to be ready to be on board, so having a positive attitude at all times is crucial That said, let's begin! Have your CV ready and in good shape Keep it plain, simple and straight forward To have a better understanding of what we mean, please find a template in the following page that you could use as a reference on creating or improving yours Avoid fancy or elaborated themes and fonts; make sure your photo is in professional attire, with good light and looking to the camera The sections shown, are the main ones to consider in building your CV, anything extra you would like to include it is welcome as long as you really make sure to have a 2 PAGE CV Application with a CV longer than 2 pages will be automatically discarded if you have a lot of experience (many tasks or responsibilities performed) or several jobs you would like to include, stick to the main ones related to the position you are applying or just keep it to 2 sentences in your work activities Once the previous steps are done, send an e-mail to cruiseshipjobs@gruposctcom with your CV and a screenshot of your online application process completed We will help you out by making sure the Hiring Team follows up with your application to set an interview date

After you have completed the previous steps, you should get an email with the time and date for a Skype interview with a recruitment member from the Cruise Line you applied with Please keep in mind that this could take up to a week or more Be patient and wait for the best Usually your first Skype interview is going to be with an HR team member to validate your english proficiency If you pass this first interview, you are going to be scheduled for a second interview with an HR coordinator that will validate your work experience for the position you are applying, then, a third interview is set up with the Head of the Department you are going to be working for Congratulations! You have made it this far! If you passed the 3 interviews, you will receive a confirmation ID and your Letter of Employment (LoE) Once you receive your LoE, it is time for you to start your VISA application There is a specific visa (C1-D for crew members) that you have to apply for One of the documents that you must show is your LoE Your VISA application is going to cost you around $16000 If your VISA was approved, one of the last steps is for you to go to a trusted hospital (we will let you know a list of elegible ones) for a full medical check up Also, some sea swimming / strength skills test may be required; please notice that this may require some traveling to the closest location which could include another country in Central America or a Mexican Port You have to make sure to be able to cover this travel expenses Are you ready?! All we have left is for you to book your flight and travel to the requested Port of Embarkation (at this point you should already know the location and date you are expected to be there) The location could be anywhere in the world so also take that into consideration since you have to pay for your plane ticket Remember to pack 1 suitcase only since your personal cabin space and closet will be small ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE!!!

A Cruise ship is like a Hotel on the sea, so the job positions are endless! Make sure the position that you are interested in fits your professional background and is something you like Remember that for all positions English is a MUST, and having a 60% proficiency in this language will be the initial requirement (this is for cleaning positions) Guest interaction on board is going to happen eventually, no matter your job position, and you must be able to have a good conversation and understanding with the guests There is a good chance that most of the applications are going to be approved for front line roles (operations) The reason for this is that besides your job, you have to constantly perform Safety Drills and full-fill Emergency tasks, so you have to be very knowledgable of your position to handle more responsibilities on top of this ones and remember all the information and procedures For example, if a 5 star Hotel asks for a 3 year -on the job experience- person for a Supervisor / Coordination role, a Cruise would ask for 5+ years of experience Some of the positions available are: Guest Services: Guest Services Manager, Front Desk Manager, International Ambassador, Group Coordinator, AssFront Desk Manager, Guest Administration Officer, Guest Departure Officer, Concierge, Guest Services Officer, Printers, Inventory F&B: Maitre D, Service, Room Service, Food attendants, Bar, Culinary (Chef, Sous Chefs, Commies 1-3) Housekeeping: Executive Housekeeper, Assistants Ex Housekeeper, Deck Supervisor, Room attendent, Laundry (Laundry master, staff, linen keeper) Facilities: Manager, Assistant Mgr, Maintenance, Cleaners Regarding the salary, it depends a lot if it is a tipped or non-tipped position, but for front line roles the average per month is between $1,200 up to $2,000 (including the tips) There is a chance to earn more money, but you have to excel in customer service to get those tips

Besides Coordination and Management roles, the International Ambassador position is a Guest Service position that would pay very well ($1,800) and gets some other perks Public Relations is one of the main activities for this position and you must know English plus German, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese in an advanced level If you meet this requirements, we encourage you to apply for this unique and special role! At the moment the Cruise Lines with more job openings is Pullmantur, however, you could also apply for jobs at Holland America Cruise Line and Viking Cruises / Seabourn Cruises (6 stars Cruise Ship with a tougher process) If you have any questions, please send an email to the following address, we will try to answer as soon as possible cruiseshipjobs@gruposctcom Or call at: +(502) 2458-4453 wwwgruposctcom
