FP7 Proposal Idea SOA architectures in quad-play systems

FP7 Proposal Idea: Towards open and self-managed middleware platforms for quad-play services using -Oriented Architectures (SOA) Challenge 1: Pervasive and Trusted Network and Infrastructures Main Objective: 1.2: ' and software architectures, infrastructures and engineering'

Background Convergent fixed and mobile world (facilitated by IP Multimedia Subsystem - ) IPTV middlewares should play a more sophisticated role: - The role of a Orchestration, coordinating individual services into a complete IPTV Delivery Platform The delivery of core communications functions is being defined in a standard way with. Rapid changes in related technologies and business models Increasing need the higher level telecom services to be based on Oriented Architecture (SOA) in order to allow plug-and-play integration of new elements based on new technologies and new services that cover the emerging user requirements.

Main Objective The definition of an architecture for a SOA based IPTV middleware platform that orchestrates the IPTV service delivery chain and provides a common framework for integrating with OSS/BSS, content management, and device management systems to provide end-to-end services to customers The platform will: - permit the easy integration (plug-and-play integration) of new elements (e.g. a new video server or a new CA system) and new services - have functionalities for self-configuration, self-management and self-optimization. The work includes the definition of: - internal services and interfaces and of Transactional, Workflow and Distributed Management s - external interfaces with the overlying applications, with the Home Area Network and Home Server and with the underlying core network - a standard way on how new services can be plugged in the platform - tools for services modeling, creation and deployment

Objectives The definition as services (that can be discovered and composed) of the functionalities of the different elements in an IPTV services delivery chain like: - content ingest, content and content metadata management and delivery - content servers - Core communication functions. The core services will act as service enablers that will offer standard re-usable functionality (as presence, call control etc.) by all services inside the IPTV middleware. - conditional access systems and digital rights management servers - customer devices (set-top-boxes, mobile terminals, etc) - The standardization of the interfaces of these IPTV elements, The standardization of the interfaces with external systems like telco back-end system (e.g. service provide billing system) The creation of a pan-european open middleware platform for quad-play services using service-oriented architectures and the standardized interfaces The testing of this platform with the integration of components from different vendors. The testing of the Plug-and-Play integration of new services, through the development of content personalization and targeted advertising services.

Project Conceptual Approach conditional conditional access Conditional access systems Access systems Systems digital digital Rights Digital Rights management Rights management systems Management systems Systems STBs STBs STBs Customer Devices (STBs, Mobile Phones, PDAs) Home Devices Home Devices Home Devices Value Added Value s Added Value s Added s IPTV Middleware as a Orchestrator Middleware in a Home Area Network VOD VOD Servers VOD Servers Servers Legacy Legacy Systems Legacy Systems Legacy Systems Systems Core Communication Core Communication Core Functions Communication Core Functions Communication Functions Functions Home Server Home Environment Provider Environment

Project Results Creation of a pan-european open IPTV middleware platform for quad-play services using -Oriented Architectures that will allow the Plug-and-Play Integration of new services, and Incorporation of: - components from different vendors (different video servers, DRM systems, CA systems, etc). - new services that will be developed in the framework of the project for testing purposes (like content personalization and targeted advertising services). Integration with different legacy systems (e.g. billing systems) Integration with Core Communication Functions The testing of this platform

Partners Technology Partners should cover specialties relative mainly to: - the main elements of an IPTV Delivery Platform: IPTV middleware (INTRACOM TELECOM), Content Servers, Customer Devices (STBs, Mobile Phones, PDAs), conditional access, and digital rights management. - the SOA architectures and standards Operators that support both fixed and mobile networks will be used for the trials of the service, Content Providers or distributors will be responsible for the provision of live (TV) and stored content (VoD and PVR).
