(Chorus) Hernandez Dietterich CONFESSION AND PRAYER Prayer of Confession: Lord God Almighty, who searches our hearts and knows our thoughts and intentions, we confess that we have not loved you with all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength. And we have not loved our neighbor as ourselves. We have loved what we ought not to have loved, and we have coveted what is not ours. Our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can no longer bear, and what has for us become a consuming fire of judgment. Set us free from a past we cannot change and open to us a future in which we can be changed, and grant us grace to grow in the likeness of Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom we pray. Silent Prayer and Confession Minister: Amen. Assurance of Pardon: Psalm 103 Anthems: Grades 3-4 Elijah I sing you about a contest bold in far off lands in ages old. Of mighty heat and water cold: I sing about Elijah. Chorus: O Elijah! O Elijah, mighty man of God! O Elijah! O Elijah, mighty man of God! I saw two altars side by side where two big oxen bled and died, Where men of Baal danced and cried and waited for his fire. I tell you of the priests of Baal and how they rave and why they wail. I say they try and yet they fail for Baal has no fire. (Chorus) Wood/Lazickui
I saw Elijah stand alone and watched him soak his heap of stone; He drenched his oxen to the bone, and asked his God for fire. (Chorus) And then there fell a flaming heat that charred the wood and fried the meat! It burned the sacrifice complete, and licked away the water. (Chorus) Jonah (Quit Your Belly-Achin!) Jonah was a mighty good man, a mighty good man was he. But when God called him to Nineveh, he ran away to the sea. Jonah cried, Why me? Why me? Why me, Lord? Just put me on a sinking ship and throw me overboard. In the belly of the whale with seaweed on his head, poor Jonah had a change of heart: he d rather be alive than dead. Jonah cried, Save me! Save me! Save me, Lord! I ll preach Your word in Nineveh and serve You ever more. Page/Shafferman Look on the bright side, give it your best when the Lord puts you to the test! Trust in God to see you through when God calls out to you. Remember Jonah, Jonah ran away, Just trust in God His will obey, and your faith will save the day! Congregational Prayer THE SERVICE OF THE WORD * Hymn: PH 548 When We Walk with the Lord TRUST AND OBEY [Children age 3 - grade Pre-K may leave during the hymn.] * Reading from the Old Testament: I Samuel 3:1-10; 19-21 Sermon: Listening and Obeying * Hymn: Here I Am, Lord I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry. All who dwell in dark and sin, my hand will save. I, who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright. Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send? Refrain: Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart. I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people's pain. I have wept for love of them. They turn away. I will break their hearts of stone, give them hearts for love alone. I will speak my Word to them. Whom shall I send? (Refrain) I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame. I will set a feast for them; my hand will save. Finest bread I will provide 'til their hearts be satisfied. I will give my life to them. Whom shall I send? (Refrain) Dan Schutte, 1981, New Dawn Music, CCLI 503812
