Act II -- Prologue 1. Another sonnet! 2. Tells of the death of Romeo s love for Rosaline 3. Tells of his new love for Juliet 4. Juliet loves him, too Complications: They are enemies this is a love that is impossible They will try to meet, but she is heavily protected and controlled it will be difficult for them to meet and be together. --real love? bewitched by looks

Act II, scene 1- A street in Verona Romeo now in love with Juliet Benvolio and Mercutio still think Romeo loves Rosaline 1. Romeo jumps over a garden wall to hide from Mercutio and Benvolio. 2. Mercutio and Benvolio call for Romeo. 3. Mercutio tries to get Romeo to come out by insulting Rosaline. 4. They give up and go home. Complications: How has the action of this scene changed or added to the existing conflicts? --- Major Point!!!! -----This is a SECRET love No one knows that Romeo is now in love with Juliet and has forgotten Rosaline. about Rosaline.

Act II, scene 2- The Capulet garden, under Juliet s balcony Romeo and Juliet 1. Romeo sees Juliet and talks about her beauty. 2. Juliet begins to speak she wishes Romeo wasn t a Montague. 3. They trade their vows of love Romeo starts to swear by The moon how much he loves Juliet She says not to- or his Love might shrink like the moon. 4. Juliet brings up marriage If your intentions are honorable, Your purpose, marriage and tells him to go set up the wedding. 5. She will send someone to Romeo to find out the details. 6. He says he will go to his ghostly father - the priest he tells everything to. Complications: How has the action of this scene changed or added to the existing conflicts? ---Romeo and Juliet have agreed to marry in secret!

Act II, scene 3 Friar Lawrence s garden Friar Lawrence- a priest of Verona s church- responsible for Hearing confession of the noble families - Romeo tells him everything. He trusts Friar Lawrence the way Juliet trusts the nurse. Romeo 1. Friar Lawrence is picking herbs for medical remedies. - his speech points out that he is an expert with plants 2. Romeo tells him of meeting and falling in love with Juliet; he asks Fr. L. to marry them today. 3. Friar Lawrence doesn t believe they are really in love, but will marry them because he thinks it will stop the fighting. Complications: How has the action of this scene changed or added to the existing conflicts? Four people now know about this romance: Juliet, the Nurse, Romeo, and Friar Lawrence. ** These adults SHOULD have immediately notified the parents!

Act II, scene 4 Verona street Mercutio Benvolio Romeo Nurse 1. Mercutio and Benvolio discuss the challenge Tybalt has sent to Romeo. 2. Romeo comes in and trades jokes with Mercutio. Romeo s in a good mood again! 3. The Nurse arrives Mercutio insults her. 4. The Nurse and Romeo talk privately- Romeo tells the Nurse to have Juliet meet him at Friar Lawrence s to get married this afternoon. 5. The Nurse warns him that Paris wants to marry Juliet too. She will meet Romeo s servant to get the rope ladder that Romeo will use to sneak into Juliet s room tonight! Complications: **Romeo doesn t know about Tybalt s challenge because he hasn t been home. ** Remember, anyone who fights, will be executed. **Remember, this is a secret marriage. ** Remember, Juliet is supposed to be married to Paris, eventually.

Act II, scene 5 Juliet s room Juliet The Nurse 1. Juliet complains, in a monologue, that the Nurse is taking too long. 2. The Nurse comes back and teases Juliet, then tells her the news. 3. Juliet goes to get married The Nurse gets the ladder. Complications: How has the action of this scene changed or added to the existing conflicts? Juliet is on her way to her marriage everything SEEMS like it is working out.

Act II, scene 6 Friar Lawrence s Cell (his office at the church) Friar Lawrence Romeo Juliet 1. Romeo is impatient he wants to marry Juliet NOW! 2. Friar Lawrence warns him of rushing it leads to trouble. These violent delights have violent ends Complications: How has the action of this scene changed or added to the existing conflicts? The marriage has been performed without parents permission or knowledge. No one can know about the wedding until AFTER the wedding night.
