College Mission The graduate mission of Marshall University is to provide quality educational opportunities at times and places convenient to students, employing alternative delivery systems and rich learning resources. The institution promotes excellence in instruction, research and public service in the interest of enhancing the intellectual, professional and personal growth of students, faculty and staff. Program Mission The general mission of the Psychology Department at Marshall University is to provide students with a comprehensive and contemporary review of psychological research, methods, and theoretical perspectives. We teach students how psychologists use the scientific method to understand, predict, and influence behavior. More specifically, we strive to help our students understand how human development, physiology, cognition, and affect influence human relationships and behavior. In addition, at the MA graduate level we provide students with advanced training in research and analytic tools to prepare them for data based careers or entrance into a doctoral program, and in our clinical program we prepare them for careers as practicing clinical psychologists. Support for College Mission Marshall strives to produce an educated citizenry capable of living and working effectively in a global environment. The psychology program at Marshall plays an integral part in achieving that goal. We provide a diverse set of psychology courses on two campuses and also online. These courses are aimed providing current knowlege in the field and the skills needed for a career in psychology or a related field. We believe we provide a high quality graduate education that prepares students for the world of work and thought.
