1 MS Health Informatics ( ) Program Information Point of Contact Girmay Berhie Support for University and College Missions Marshall University is a multi campus public university providing innovative undergraduate and graduate education that contributes to the development of society and the individual. The University actively facilitates learning through the preservation, discovery, synthesis, and dissemination of knowledge. University Mission Programs must state their Program Mission and specify how this mission supports both the University's Mission as well as any Mission that the College the Program is housed under happens to have. College Mission Consistent with the mission of Marshall University, the College of Health Professions (COHP) is committed to offering quality undergraduate and graduate nursing and health professions education. The focus of the College of Health Professions is upon being interactive with the community, including rural and underserved areas, and responding to contemporary and future needs of society, nursing, and the health professions. To accomplish this mission, the College of Health Professions: ensures the integrity of the programs through maintenance of rigorous professional education standards and through the high expectation of student learning and performance; encourages involvement of faculty in service to society and the profession; supports the engagement of faculty in research and scholarly activities; provides an environment that is sensitive to a culturally, racially, and ethnically diverse student body, faculty, and staff; and maintains an environment that provides for academic freedom and shared governance. Program Mission The HI Department prepares students with the synthesis or convergence of knowledge, skills and values in Information Systems, Health Informatics, and Information Technology to improve the performance of complex health systems through health management informatics and to advance the health of West Virginia, the nation, and globally. In short, Health Informatics Department: o Have established relationships with hospitals, public health, health care providers and primary health care to do training, collaboration, research, projects and get placement for our students o Will create a culture of collaborative relationships in research, education, and service to generate innovative ideas and solutions o Will provide professional and research oriented health management and informatics education and fostering lifelong learning o Will help in the analysis of data, technical assistance, and consultation by partnering with the department of Health and Human Services, and policy making organizations

Students may not follow the exact same plan of study, and therefore, will attain various aspects or rubrics of this learning outcome at a different times. Students will have attained all aspects or rubrics of this learning outcome.
