FROM 1874-1924 Shellmound Park, a large amusement park operated on the site and was a popular destination for many people from all over the San Francisco Bay Area. The Public Market site was home to former PABCO (Paraffine Paint Company) whose paint was used for the painting of the Golden Gate Bridge.
