DMX512 Over Broadband Powerline Communication Transceiver Module Homeplug based DMX512 Adaptor User Manual LinkSprite Technologies, Inc June 2011 www.linksprite.com
1. Introduction LinkSprite's broadband powerline communication module has 5Mbps throughput on the powerline. The DMX512 PLC adaptor replaces the DMX512 cable by the powerline (DC or main AC power). AT command are used to configure the domains of different nodes so that DMX512 stream can be configured to different domains. Hardware included: Boardband powerline communication module RS485 DIP card RS485 to DMX512 cable 2 Features A LinkSprite DMX512 to PLC-Transceiver AC and DC powerline Communications Fully transparent mode, plug and play coming out of the box without the need to do any programming. Homeplug 1.0 5Mbps throughput on the power line Built-in error correction codes. AT commands used for advanced configuration. RoHS LinkSpriteTechnologies, Inc. 2 www.linksprite.com

8 Interface Card Socket Definition and Layout The pin layout of interface cards is compatible with Xbee module from Digi (www.digi.com). The socket on the PLC-UART motherboard can be used to receive any interface card with the pin out shown below: Pin assignment of the interface card socket: Pin # Name Direction Description 1 VCC - 3.3V Power supply 2 DOUT Output UART Data Out 3 DIN Input UART Data In 4 EX4 Depending on model of daughter card Route daughtercard final interface signal back to mother board, and to the DIP pins to user s board 5 RESET Input Module Reset 6 EX3 Depending on model of daughter card Route daughtercard final interface signal back to mother board, and to the DIP pins to user s board 7 EX2 Depending on model of daughter card Route daughtercard final interface signal back to mother board, and to the DIP pins to user s board 8 EX1 Depending on model of daughter Route daughtercard final interface signal LinkSpriteTechnologies, Inc. 7 www.linksprite.com

Command Mode Description of AT mode Enter into AT mode After power on, PLC DMX512 adapter will enter into AT mode, and will stay in AT mode until DMX512 signal is detected. If there are no character A (or a) in 8 seconds, the module will reboot. If there is, but no complete command in 20 seconds, the module will reply with a timeout message and clear the previous command. LinkSpriteTechnologies, Inc. 8 www.linksprite.com
Description of AT commands DMX512 Over Wide Band Powerline Communication Transceiver Module Command Description ATDA Set domain address or check domain address (if no argument is followed). Default value: 0x8888 ATNA Set node address or check node address (if no argument is followed). Default value: 0x8888. ATBD Check or set baud rate of AT mode. The supported baud rates: 1200,2400, 4800, 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, and 115200. The default is 9600. ATDB Check or set data bits of AT mode. 5-8 data bits. Default is 8. ATPA Check or set parity bit of AT mode. The options are e, o, n. Default is n. ATHA Check the MAC of the device or set the destination MAC address (default: FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF (broadcasting mode) ATSN Check or set Serial number ATDN Set or check destination serial number ATRS System Reset If no argument is followed after command, it will report the current setting. There must be at least one spacing between command and argument. The spacing within argument doesn t make difference. Addressing 1. The ATHA command can be used to check the MAC address of device itself. When argument is used, it is used to set the destination MAC address. (FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF means broadcasting). The total length if 17 includes the delimiter -. 2. Description of serial number: the serial number used in ATSN command consists of 32 bits. The upper 16 bits are domain address, while the lower 16 bits are node address. The definition of DN is same LinkSpriteTechnologies, Inc. 9 www.linksprite.com
as that of SN, but DN has only domain address portion. If the MAC address of source device is a broadcast address and the DA portion of the source DN matches DA portion of destination SN, they can communicate. MSb 16bit domain(0000-ffff) 16bit node(0000-ffff) LSb (SN/DN diagram) Examples Broadcast mode: To put the device into broadcast mode, MAC addresses of all the devices must be set to broadcast mode (FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF). If DN of all devices also set to (0xFFFFFFFFFFFF), all devices are in broadcasting mode. Otherwise, it only broadcasts within the same domain where the DN of the source is same with the DN of the destination s SN. LinkSpriteTechnologies, Inc. 10 www.linksprite.com
