Florida Hospital Fish Memorial invites student film makers to submit short videos to inspire ways to grow up healthy and build a healthy community FILM FESTIVAL GUIDELINES AND SUBMISSION FORM The mission of the Florida Hospital CREATION Health Student Film Competition is to inspire youth grades 6 th through 12 th to use the video media platform as a creative outlet in order to tell positive, life-affirming stories while learning to grow up healthy and build a healthy community. Florida Hospital Fish Memorial is partnering with the Love Your Shorts Film Festival (LYSFF), to be held in Sanford, Florida February 9-12, 2017 on this endeavor. LYSFF is a not-for-profit, 501c3 organization whose mission is to support, promote and recognize the art of short film and its artists. SUBMISSION DEADLINE: All media projects must be received by December 31, 2016. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS Submission of a film constitutes acceptance of all rules, regulations and procedures by filmmakers and their agents. Entrants understand that it is their sole responsibility to copyright and protect their own submitted material. AWARDS 1. SUBJECT The subject matter of all films should have positive, life-affirming messages derived from the CREATION Health Overview provided on the final page of this form. 2. LENGTH The length of the film should be no shorter than three minutes and no longer than 10 minutes. 3. COST: There is no cost to submit a film to the FH CREATION Health Student Film Competition. 4. Student Participants: All key production crew and lead talent (actors) must be students. Adults may appear in the film but cannot be the lead characters. The top five films will be screened during the Love Your Shorts Film Festival to be held on February 9 12, 2017 in Sanford, Florida. The Student Film Festival is an opportunity for youth to create films based on the eight principles of CREATION Health. Choice, Rest, Environment, Activity, Trust, Interpersonal Relationships, Outlook and Nutrition are the eight principles of CREATION Health, a wellness plan to live a happy and healthy life. Choice Choose wisely Rest Get good sleep Environment Make your space beautiful Activity Get active Trust Trust God and others Interpersonal Healthy relationships Outlook Be positive Nutrition Eat healthy foods Wondering what type of film to make? Here are some suggestions to help you decide but don t think you have to choose from the following. Be creative and let your imagination run wild just make sure the project is positive and promotes healthy and happy lifestyles! CREATION Health C - Choice Create a film about making smart choices. The choices you make are important to you, your family and your community. Film Suggestion: Make a film about making a choice to be polite and kind, saying thank you, not cutting in line, offering to share with others, being helpful, taking time to say hello to people you see every day. You can make a choice to be friendly, to smile at fellow students at school or ignore them. Film Suggestion: We make hundreds of decisions every day. Should you eat the apple or the candy bar? Should you take the elevator or the stairs. Should you drink water or a sugary soft drink? R - Rest Create a film about rest. Film Suggestion: Sleep. Do you have a story about sleep? You need sleep to be healthy. How do you fall asleep? Do you have a favorite pillow or blanket? Do you count sheep? Film Suggestion: Relaxation. Do you have a story about relaxing? Power naps? Is there a story about your dad relaxing in his favorite chair, hammock, etc.? Rest and relaxation restores us and rest is important. Create a film about your family members napping. E - Environment A healthy environment is important. We are influenced by the space where we live, study and play. Film Suggestion: Make a film about doing something good for the environment in your neighborhood, your community. Create a film about a beach cleanup, recycling drink containers, composting in your garden, a vegetable garden, growing plants native to Florida, reducing the use of plastic, recycling sports equipment, etc.
Film Suggestion: Is your work area cluttered? Do you have too much stuff? What can you do to eliminate some of the distractions in your life and create a more soothing space? A - Activity Activity is important to your health and to a healthy community. Film Suggestion: Sports. Do you and or your family like to ride bikes, play basketball, soccer, hike, water ski, golf, play tennis, run in races, swim, and ride horses? Make a film about your favorite outdoor activity. Film Suggestion: Make a film about your favorite activity. For example: cooking with your friends or family, baking, playing a musical instrument, making pottery, singing in a choir, playing in a band, taking an art class, acting class, etc. Tell a story about your favorite activity. T - Trust Trust is important to living a healthy life and to having a healthy community and country. Film Suggestion: Do you trust someone to keep a promise? Make a film about why trust is important to you and tell a story about people you trust, community leaders you trust, etc. Film Suggestion: Make a film about your trust in things you believe but cannot see, your faith. I - Interpersonal Relationships Interpersonal relationships are important for you, your family and your community. Film Suggestion: Make a film about forgiving someone for something they did that bothered you or a film about helping others without expecting anything in return. Volunteering to help at an animal shelter, visiting a nursing home, etc. Film Suggestion: Make a film about visits with your relatives, your cousins, aunts, uncle, grandparents, etc. and tell a story about what is special about that relationship and why it is important to you. Make a film about how you make your siblings or friends laugh, share secrets, etc. Why are those moments important to your friendships? O - Outlook Your outlook on life is very important to good health and to the health of your community. Film Suggestion: Make a film about doing something funny or about doing something fun. Make a film about having a positive outlook and looking on the bright side of things when something happens that can be a challenge like an accident, etc. Film Suggestion: Have you ever noticed how some people always seem to have a good day, while others go about their day with an almost visible storm cloud over their head? Who would you rather be friends with? N - Nutrition Nutrition is very important to growing up to be a healthy adult. Film Suggestion: Make a film about a vegetable garden and preparing a meal from the things you grow or buy at a farmers market.
Film Suggestion: Make a film about water and how it is important to drink plenty of water every day. What percentage of your body is water? Film Suggestion: Make a film about baking from scratch, not a mix but from a recipe. Make a film about spices and herbs and how important they are to flavors for your favorite foods. Your film can be from your perspective or from the perspective of what food you are preparing.
