INTRODUCTION Thank you for purchasing the VTech KidiBeats Drum Set. The KidiBeats Drum Set is an interactive musical instrument that lets you create your own music while learning letters, letter sounds, counting, memory skills and more. With four modes of play, nine song styles, fun sound effects, and light-up musical play, there s no limit to the amount of fun you can have with the VTech KidiBeats Drum Set. NOTE: Please keep instruction manual as it contains important information. Unlock the packaging locks: Rotate the packaging locks 90 degrees counter-clockwise. GETTING STARTED Pull out the packaging lock. 4

GETTING STARTED BATTERY INSTALLATION 1. Make sure the unit is turned OFF. 2. Locate the battery cover on the bottom of the unit. Install 3 new AA size (LR6/AM- 3) batteries following the diagram inside the battery box. 3. Replace the battery cover. BATTERY NOTICE Use new alkaline batteries for maximum performance. Use only batteries of the same or equivalent type as recommended. Do not mix different types of batteries: alkaline, standard (carbonzinc) or rechargeable (Ni-Cd, Ni-MH), or new and used batteries. Do not use damaged batteries. Insert batteries with the correct polarity. Do not short-circuit the battery terminals. Remove exhausted batteries from the toy. Remove batteries during long periods of non-use. Do not dispose of batteries in fire. Do not charge non-rechargeable batteries. Remove rechargeable batteries from the toy before charging (if removable). Rechargeable batteries are only to be charged under adult supervision. GETTING STARTED 5

PRODUCT ASSEMBLY ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTION A. Drum body B. Drum stand Locate the hole underneath the center drum. Insert the Drum stand into the hole and press until it locks in place. PRODUCT FEATURES 1: ON/OFF Button To turn the unit on, press the ON/OFF BUTTON. Press the ON/OFF BUTTON again to turn the unit off. 2: Mode Buttons Press the MODE BUTTONS to choose from 4 modes of play: Free Style, Alphabeats, Number Jams or Follow Me. 3: MUSIC/MUTE BUTTON Press the MUSIC/MUTE BUTTON to cycle through a variety of background music. Keep pressing the button to reach the end of the music choices and mute the background music. A B PRODUCT ASSEMBLY/PRODUCT FEATURES 6

4: Drum Pads Hit the DRUM PADS to play drum sounds or other fun sound effects. See details below under DRUM SOUND BUTTON for information on the different drum sounds. 5: Drum Sound Button Press the DRUM SOUND BUTTON to change the sound that plays when the drum pads are hit. Choose between regular drum sounds, silly sounds, animal sounds, or DJ sounds. 6: VOLUME CONTROL Slide the VOLUME CONTROL to switch the volume between low, medium and high. ACTIVITIES ACTIVITIES Free Style When you enter this mode, a background song will be playing. Hit the DRUM PADS however you d like to play along to the song and add drum sounds. Press the DRUM SOUND BUTTON to change the drum sound effect that plays when you hit the pads. Press the MUSIC/ MUTE BUTTON to change or mute the background music. 7

Alphabeats Watch the drums closely! Follow the light as it appears on the drums. Hit the drum with the light and hear a letter, letter sound, or word. Keep following the light and work your way from A through Z, and then back down to A again. Press the DRUM SOUND BUTTON to change the drum sound effect that plays when you hit the pads. Press the MUSIC/MUTE BUTTON to change or mute the background music. Numbers Jams How fast can you count?! Follow the light as it appears on the drums. Hit the drum with the light and hear the numbers counted. Keep the beat and count from 1 to 30, and then back down to 1 again. If you lose the beat and wait too long, you ll have to start from 1 again! Press the DRUM SOUND BUTTON to change the drum sound effect that plays when you hit the pads. Press the MUSIC/MUTE BUTTON to change or mute the background music. Follow Me This is a memory game. Watch the pattern of lights as they appear on the drums. Then try to repeat the same pattern. See if you can follow the pattern while also keeping the rhythm. Each time you complete a pattern, another light gets added. Test your memory and see if you can complete a sequence of 8 drums in a row. Press the DRUM SOUND BUTTON to change the drum sound effect that plays when you hit the pads. Press the MUSIC/MUTE BUTTON to change or mute the background music. CARE & MAINTENANCE CARE & MAINTENANCE 1. Keep the unit clean by wiping it with a slightly damp cloth. 2. Keep the unit out of direct sunlight and heat source. 3. Remove the batteries when the unit is not in use for an extended period of time. 8

4. Do not drop the unit on hard surfaces and do not expose the unit to moisture or water. TROUBLESHOOTING If for some reason the program/activity stops working or malfunctions, please follow these steps: 1. Turn the unit OFF. 2. Interrupt the power supply by removing the batteries. 3. Let the unit stand for a few minutes, then replace the batteries. 4. Turn the unit back ON. The unit will now be ready to play again. 5. If the product still does not work, replace with a new set of batteries. If the problem persists, please call our Consumer Services Department on at 1-800-521-2010 in the U.S. or 1-877-352-8697 in Canada, and a service representative will be happy to help you. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver. Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected. Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/tv technician for help.
