Established in 1954, the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) was the first school of public health in the Arab region. It prepares professionals to address, analyze, and respond to the most pressing public health concerns in Lebanon and the region. FHS is committed to an interdisciplinary perspective as reflected in the variety of specializations of its faculty, in the scope of its research projects, and in its emphasis on the application of social sciences to the investigation of health and disease. In addition to having an accredited Graduate Public Health Program (GPHP) offering MS and MPH degrees, FHS offers a Master of Science degree in Environmental Sciences-major in Environmental Health (as part of an Interfaculty Graduate Environmental Sciences Program) and an Executive Master in Health Care Leadership. FHS also offers four undergraduate BS degrees (Environmental Health, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Audiology Sciences and Medical Imaging Sciences) and contributes to the teaching of public health to medical students at the American University of Beirut. FHS Alumni live in over 34 countries around the world. Many of these graduates have made important contributions to the promotion of public health in Lebanon, the Arab region, and the world. The Graduate Public Health Program at the Faculty of Health Sciences The Graduate Public Health Program at the Faculty of Health Sciences provides advanced training in public health to prepare professionals, both practitioners and academicians, who can competently assess, research, and respond to health needs and current public health issues in Lebanon and the region. The GPHP promotes multidisciplinary and community based research as well as community service as means to improve instruction, advance knowledge, and address public health issues and needs of relevance to the population served. Accreditation The Graduate Public Health Program received accreditation from the US Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) in October 2006 and was reaccredited in 2012 for 7 years. The AUB GPHP is the first CEPH-accredited public health program outside the Americas. Degrees Offered Master of Public Health Master of Science in Epidemiology Master of Science in Population Health

Master of Public Health (MPH) About the Program The MPH program is a professional degree that provides students with interdisciplinary educational experiences emphasizing the biological, epidemiological, environmental, sociological, behavioral, managerial, and policy dimensions of public health. Students choose specialized training in an area of concentration and engage in relevant community-based experiences in public health practice. Our students come from all over the world, from a variety of degrees, and graduate from the program to work in leading health care organizations and diverse settings of public health. Aim of the Program The aim of the MPH program is to prepare professionals who are able to investigate critical public health issues and who can develop, implement, and evaluate programs and policies that aim to promote and advocate for the health of populations in Lebanon and countries of the region. Areas of Concentration Epidemiology and Biostatistics (EPBS) Students concentrating in EPBS gain an in-depth understanding of concepts and methods of epidemiology and biostatistics that are applied to community and facility-based health issues. Students are prepared to become proficient in the design, conduct, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation of epidemiologic research and in the management and analysis of routine health data sources. Health Promotion and Community Health (HPCH) Students concentrating in HPCH acquire a broad understanding of the underlying determinants of health and community health. Students are prepared to design, implement, and evaluate interventions to promote health of groups and communities using participatory approaches. Health Management and Policy (HMP) Students concentrating in HMP gain an in-depth knowledge of the unique management and policy issues relevant to operations in health care organizations, finance, and information systems. Students gain competence in the application of management tools in health care settings. Curriculum and Credit Requirements The MPH program is comprised of four required components totaling 42 credits. Core courses: 19 credits which emphasize basic public health competencies.
