BOOK YOUR TRAINING DAY NOW Your career as a PORTABLE APPLIANCE TESTER is on its way! What is portable appliance testing or PAT Testing, as it is commonly known? Well basically, its testing and inspecting an electrical appliance to ensure it is safe to use. How do you do that? You buy a machine (about the size of a lap top) called a Portable Appliance Tester, this carries out the tests and you inspect the items visually. Of course, you have to be trained and be familiar with the I.E.E. Code Of Practice For In Service Inspecting And Testing Of Electrical Equipment, to ensure you meet the competent person criteria. That sounds a lot! No, not really. The training is usually one day or sometimes arranged over a few evenings. Actually, unlike other electrical qualifications, it s fast. From the moment you decide you want to become a portable appliance tester you can be trained, and be working, almost instantly. It s that simple. Whether you want to supplement your income, run your own business or add PAT Testing to your existing business, anyone can PAT test, anyone of any age, male or female you can do it. (1)
Think about what it has to offer. Firstly you jump straight into the role of a professional engineer with only a one day training course, and the set up costs are low. You can make the business as big or as small as you want, from the odd job to supplement your income to an army of employees, its up to you. Having said all of this, it must be understood that the role of a portable appliance tester is one of immense responsibility. You are the expert that decides if an appliance is safe and once you have authorised this, you are responsible for it legally and morally. Why is our course different? There are many portable appliance testing training days across the UK, all saying they re the best, to get your business. But the truth is they re all much the same. We have added something to the course, by approaching the subject of making money out of PAT testing: where to go to get work, how much to charge, what PAT tester to buy, how to get working without buying a new PAT tester, how your hobbies and interests can lead you into a niche area for profitable PAT testing. The other bonus you get on this training day is the tutor has actually done PAT testing, for years. Apart from his technical knowledge he can also give you a realistic view of what your best way forward is if you re starting your own PAT testing business. We also restrict our training days to a maximum of three people so you get plenty of individual training. You get quality training, you`re not one of a group of eight or twelve people all trying to share a PAT tester. We have three different types of PAT testers to share between three people, so you are constantly learning. (2)
Peter Whetton runs the training days. He is a fully qualified Electrical Engineer with over twenty five years experience. Over this time he has carried out thousands of portable appliance tests and his clients have included: factories, offices, radio stations, building sites and a large number of property letting agents. Peter Whetton has engineered the success of many new PAT testing companies and tutored many companies, to take advantage of massive savings, by undertaking their own Portable Appliance Testing. QUALITY TRAINING It can t be that easy? That s true - nothing is for nothing! The hardest thing you have to do is get your own work and this will obviously require a professional approach. If you have transport and a will to succeed then there is no reason why you can t be successful. However our training day is not a guarantee of future income, that s up to you! PAT testing isn t a get rich quick, one-day wonder. It is a solid, reliable professional career. It s a business you can control and expand and it can be run from home with no additional overheads.
