Surgical training courses 2016
Envigo and BioXpert have joined forces to provide a comprehensive range of educational courses for animal care professionals. This brochure includes the programs of practical training courses planned for 2016. The introduced 2010/63/EU Directive indicates that animal care employees shall be adequately educated and trained before they perform procedures on animals. Member States are obliged to publish their minimum requirements with regard to education and training and the requirements for obtaining, maintaining and demonstrating requisite competence. It s our responsibility to have appropriate training and competencies as they ensure best practice and solid results in the best interests of both our animals and scientific advancement. To maintain competencies, current levels of skill and knowledge must be regularly assessed. Therefore Envigo is offering a comprehensive range of training courses, which are discussed in this leaflet. Courses will be given in the Netherlands, in dedicated rooms for theory and practice with a strong focus on animal welfare, since good welfare is good science. Language: English Microscopes are equipped with additional oculars to enable our training team to see the participant s surgical field and give assistance. The surgical field of a demo microscope is displayed on a wide screen monitor to train specific parts of a training technique. All courses are given by experienced trainers and external experts with a laboratory animal science background, coordinated by an Animal Welfare Officer and/or FELASA D specialist. They aim to develop knowledge and skills for scientists and technicians with a focus on best practice and scientific excellence.

Surgical services Envigo offers a wide range of surgical services to assist customers with (micro) surgery in different kinds of animal models. In our surgical suites we produce standard and custom surgically modified animals with a focus on animal welfare. The surgery area is located next to the animal breeding barriers which enables us to have an efficient supply of animal models while maintaining a minimum risk of contamination. Surgically modified animals + Ectomies + Insertion of (non) vascular catheters + Connection of harnesses, buttons (jackets on request) + Soft-tissue procedures + Neurological procedures + Implantation of radio-telemetry transmitters + Implantation of other devices Sentinel animals are used to monitor the microbiological status of the surgically prepared animals in order to keep SPF status during and after surgery. Animals will be operated on according to the principles of good surgical practice, which include: + Aseptic working method + Minimal surgical trauma + Peri-operative care; also on request additional treatment + Short anesthesia and analgesia treatment + Detailed reporting; official animal diary + Detailed instructions for post-operative care All under guidance of our animal welfare officer.
