} A surrogate is a woman who agrees to become pregnant through assisted reproductive technology and carries a child for the intended parents. } There are two types of surrogacy arrangements, Traditional Surrogacy and Gestational Surrogacy.
} An arrangement in which a woman agrees to become pregnant using her own egg. } In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate is genetically related to the conceived baby. } High legal risk associated with traditional surrogacy.
} An arrangement by which the surrogate agrees to become pregnant through assisted reproductive technology and carries a child for Intended Parents that is not genetically related to her. } In this arrangement the embryo that will be used will be formed from the egg of the Intended Mother or a donor.
} Intended Parents who seek to grow their family through ART, egg donation, sperm donation, embryo donation, or surrogacy, must protect their parentage and the status of the child born as a result of ART. } ART law varies significantly from state to state, and consulting with an attorney who specializing in reproductive law is crucial.
} Cost of Surrogacy. } Surrogate base compensation ranges between $20,000 to $30,000, and can be higher. } Surrogacy Pregnancy Costs. } Gamete Donor Costs (if using sperm, egg or embryo donation).
} Obtain the assistance of a Surrogacy Matching Program to locate your surrogate. } Locate a surrogate independently, and obtain the assistance of a reproductive law attorney to assist you in understanding which states are appropriate for you to secure your legal parentage to your future child.

} 15 States have enacted legislation that require insurance companies to offer fertility treatment coverage. } Of the 15 States, 3 States require insurers to only offer fertility coverage, and it is up to individual employers to ask and pay for such coverage. } But self-insured employer plans are exempt from state mandates.
