Overview Please follow instructions in this document to uninstall old version of NetBrain System and then reinstall the latest release of OEv5.0b. You can follow the wizard to keep your current data during the upgrade. The NetBrain OEv5.0b system has four components: Customer License Server, Workspace Server, Network Server and Workstation. Customer License Server manages workspaces and licenses Workspace Server manages all data for shared workspaces Workstation is the main user interface Network Server collects data from live network There are 2 quick steps to upgrade the entire system and make it ready to use: Step 1 Uninstall old version of NetBrain OE System ~ 10 minutes for standard upgrade Step 2 Install new version of NetBrain OE System ~ 20 minutes for standard deployment Updated 8/5/2013 support@netbraintech.com 1
Download the latest OE 5.0b release. Save and unzip the file. You must upgrade the Gateway Server, all Network Servers and all NetBrain Workstations (clients). Please be aware that the previous version of the Workstation is not compatible with the new version of the Server and must be upgraded. Step 1 Uninstall old version of NetBrain OE System 1. Uninstall old version of NetBrain OE System a) Uninstall the old For OEv4.1x version: From your Windows start menu, open Programs > NetBrain version of NetBrain > NetBrain Enterprise Server > Uninstall NetBrain Enterprise Server (for Gateway Server Windows 2008, we recommend that you right click on the uninstall NetBrain Enterprise Server and select the Run as Administrator option). Follow the wizard and keep all default values (by default all data will be kept). For OEv5.0x version: From your Windows start menu, open Programs > NetBrain > NetBrain Enterprise Server > Maintain NetBrain Enterprise Server (for Windows 2008, we recommend that you right click on the Maintain NetBrain Enterprise Server and select the Run as Administrator option). Uncheck both options to uninstall Customer License Server and Workspace Server. Follow the wizard and keep all default values (by default all data will be kept). b) Uninstall the old version of the Network Server Note: if you have multi Workspace Servers on separate Windows server, please repeat this step. From your Windows start menu, open Programs > NetBrain > Network Server > Uninstall NetBrain Network Server (for Windows 2008, we recommend that you right click on the uninstall NetBrain Network Server and select the Run as Administrator option). 2.1 Install the Customer License Server and Workspace Server a) Run the setup file and For Windows 2008, we recommend that you right click on the setup file and select follow the wizard the Run as Administrator option. Follow the wizard. For OEv5.0x version: In the Select Features step, select both the Customer License Server and Workspace Server options (selected by default) to install them on the current Windows server, see screenshot below: Note: please uncheck Workspace Server checkbox if you Do Not want to install it on this physical b) Continue the installation process server. Please click the Close button to continue the installation process when the NetBrain License window pops up. See screenshot below: c) Install Network Server and NetBrain Workstation d) Login to the Customer License Server web interface Follow the Setup Wizard to install Network Server and NetBrain Workstation. You can cancel the installation process if you don t want to install Network Server or NetBrain Workstation on this server. Enter URL http://<ip or domain name of Customer License Server>/netbrain. page does not come up, check the IIS setting and maybe reinstall IIS. Click here for more info. e) Allocate Seats and Nodes for Shared Workspace on Customer License Server webpage Click the Workspace Server tab, one Workspace Server (on the left pane) and the Workspace1 entry (on the right pane) will be displayed. Click Assign License button to allocate seats and nodes for this workspace. Note: Shared workspaces should be created on Workspace Server, and must be authorized in Customer License Server, so that they can be operated in the OE workstation. If Workspace Server is not listed under Workspace Server tab, please follow step A1.1b to register the Workspace Server on Customer License Server manually. If you want to create multiple Shared Workspaces on the Workspace Server, please follow steps A1.1c - A1.1d. 2.2 Upgrade all Network Servers The old version of Network Server is not compatible with the new version of NetBrain System. If you only have one Network Server and it has already been installed in step 2.1c, you can skip steps 2.2a and 2.2b below. a) Download the Network Open the Customer License Server homepage by entering URL http://<ip or Server installation domain name of Customer License Server>/netbrain, and click on the Network package Server Download Setup link. Save the file. b) Run the setup file and For Windows 2008, we recommend that you right click on the installation package follow the setup wizard and select Run as Administrator option. Follow the Setup Wizard. 2.3 Upgrade all NetBrain Workstations The old version of NetBrain Workstation is not compatible with the new version of NetBrain System. If you only have one NetBrain Workstation and it has already been installed in step 2.1c, you can skip steps 2.3a and 2.3b below. a) Download the Open the Customer License Server homepage by entering URL http://<ip or Workstation domain name of Customer License Server>/netbrain, and click on the Client installation package Workstation Download Setup link. Save the file. b) Run the setup file and For Windows Vista and Windows7, we recommend that you right click on the follow the setup wizard installation package and select Run as Administrator option. Appendix If you only have one shared Workspace, we suggest installing Customer License Server (CLS) and Workspace Server (WSS) on the same Windows server. If you have multiple shared Workspaces to be created under multiple WSS servers, then please follow steps below to install WSS on separate Windows servers. A1.1 Install the Workspace Server separately a) Run the setup file on another machine and follow the setup wizard Double click the same setup file to install the Workspace Server. For Windows 2008, we recommend that you right click on the setup file and select the Run as Administrator option. In the step of Select Features, only select the Workspace Server option. b) Register the Workspace Server on Customer License Server In the step for POSTGRES installation, use the default port 54321 and keep the default username as postgres and set the password. 1. Login to the Customer License Server web interface by entering URL http://<ip or domain name of Customer License Server>/netbrain with admin account. 2. Switch to Workspace Server tab then click the Add button at the bottom of the Server pane (on the left) to open the Workspace Server Properties window. Input IP address/port number of the workspace server. Note: You may need the Customer License Server administrator to do this step for you. Updated 8/5/2013 support@netbraintech.com 5
c) Create Shared Workspaces On the Workspace Server, click Start > All Programs > NetBrain > Netbrain Enterprise Server > Add Shared Workspace to launch the Create Shared Workspaces tool. Choose a folder location, and click Add to add a workspace. d) Allocate Seats and Nodes for Shared Workspace on Customer License Server webpage 1. Switch to Workspace Server tab, choose Workspace Server on the left pane to switch to corresponding Workspace List view. 2. Click Refresh button to ensure all shared workspaces are listed properly. 3. Choose the Workspace entry, click Assign License button to allocate seats and nodes for this workspace. Note: Shared Workspaces should be created on Workspace Server, and must be authorized in Customer License Server, so that they can be operated in the OE workstation. If you want to create multiple Shared Workspaces on the Workspace Server, please follow steps A1.1c - A1.1d. If you want to create multiple Workspace Servers on other machines, please follow steps A1.1a A1.1b. What s next?
