Standards Search If you are planning a unit and want to make sure that a specific Common Core standard is covered during instruction, the Standards feature allows you to quickly view the specific Common Core standards taught in each lesson of Pearson Common Core Literature. By clicking the Standards link at the top of your Table of Contents page, you will be taken to a list of the Common Core State Standards for your grade level. From there, you can select the standard that you would like to teach. The system provides a list of correlated features from Pearson Common Core Literature that address that standard. You can filter by asset type and choose the lesson that you would like to teach. Curriculum Builder The Curriculum Builder feature enables you to customize your curriculum. You can drag and drop selections, rearrange the features of the lesson, add additional content, or link additional media and video. To customize a lesson, you must first choose the lesson that you are planning to teach, and click Customize next to the lesson title. 2
If you would like to add additional content to the lesson, click Add. This will allow you to upload Excel files, Word documents, PowerPoint files, PDFs, images, audio recordings, or videos. You can also click Add to include links to Web sites, titles of external novels, or other written pieces. You can include notes for your students within the lesson as well. By choosing Add more available content items, you can search for other related content within Pearson Common Core Literature and filter to find a specific asset that you want to include. Once you have included all of the additional resources that you would like to use to customize your lesson, click Save. After saving your work, you may choose to assign this customized lesson to your students. ACTIVe-book ACTIVe-book is where you can find the Close Reading Tool and Online Writer s Notebook. Select ACTIVe-book from the Tools menu, or access ACTIVe-book by selecting the Close Reading Tool or Online Writer s Notebook from within a lesson. You will be brought directly to lesson-specific content for that tool. ACTIVe-book is delivered on Dash, a Pearson Web app. For more information, view the tutorials and guides on the Dash page of this Web site. Close Reading Tool The Close Reading Tool gives students an opportunity to practice reading strategies in a digital environment. 3
Students can immediately apply what they are learning by responding to close reading questions, highlighting and marking the text, and taking notes. Vocabulary support is also offered within each selection. This tool supports designated selections within each available unit. These include the Independent Practice Selection of Part 1, three selections from Part 2, and all of the selections from the text sets of Part 3. The Time and Resource Manager in your Teacher s Edition indicates whether the selection is available in the Close Reading Tool. You can also find the Close Reading Tool icon embedded next to available selections in the Teacher s Edition. Once students have completed and saved their work within the tool, you have access to it at any time. Online Writer s Notebook The Online Writer s Notebook is a blank writing space that students can use to respond to the Close Reading Activities that accompany each selection in Pearson Common Core Literature. A space is provided for each activity that follows a selection. Students can use this space like a paper notebook and save their work as they go. This space enables you to monitor students progress on these activities. Online Literature Library The Online Literature Library provides a variety of additional reading selections. You can only find these selections online, and they include the Online Text Sets in Part 4 of each unit. To access the Online Text Set and see a list of available online selections, simply open Part 4 of the unit that you are teaching. 4
You can also access the Online Literature Library from the Table of Contents page for your program. Scroll to the bottom of your Table of Contents, and select Online Literature Library. From here, you will find the selections organized by genre. Once you select a genre, the available selections will appear. You can assign any of these selections or use them to customize text sets, create texts sets, or provide additional close reading practice. You will also find a list of the Online Literature Library selections on the Range of Reading pages in your Teacher s Edition. Selections are highlighted in blue to make them easy to find.
