Creative tip FIMO soft Snowman snow globe Amazing but true these snow globes are handmade! It s great fun to make them and later to watch snowstorms raging inside! Of course, you don t have to follow our instructions to the letter but can adapt them to add your own personal touch. This leaves you with an absolutely original gift item that s sure to be a source of delight for years to come not only at Christmas time! Material 1 round FIMO snow globe (art. no. 8629 42), 1 pack each of FIMO soft in the colours black (9), Indian red (24), tangerine (42) and transparent blue (374) and 2 packs in white (0), snow globe snow (8613 BK), snow globe water clarifying agent (8603 BK) and modelling tools (8711).

In addition you will need 1 sheet of glass, several transparent sleeves, 1 rubber roller or round bottle for rolling out with, 1 craft knife, 1 marker cap, several small wooden sticks, super-glue, 1 measuring jug, distilled water and washing-up liquid. TIP: It makes sense to make several snowman snow globes at a time as this doesn t take much more time or require much more material than if you re only making one! All you need for each additional snow globe is 1 pack of white FIMO soft, 1 snow globe and 1 bottle of water clarifying agent. Step 1 Mix 1 block of white FIMO soft together with 1/8 th of a block of transparent blue though not too thoroughly and roll out to an approx. 2 mm thick blue/white marbled sheet on the sheet of glass. Using the round template, cut out the base for your snow globe. IMPORTANT: This base must not be moved otherwise its shape may get distorted and consequently no longer fit the snow globe later on! Make an opening for the round filling hole at the edge of the base using the marker cap. Now, using the second template, cut a jagged shape out of the FIMO sheet, place on top of the round base sheet and press on gently.

Step 2 Then, using the transparent sleeves to work on, shape the individual parts of your snowman. FIMO blocks are divided into eight segments on the back which serves as a portioning aid. For the snowman s body, shape 1 segment of white firstly into a ball and then into a pear. For the arms, cut slices off another segment, round them off and press onto the body. Use the tangerine-coloured FIMO for an appropriately sized, carrot-shaped nose. The mouth is simply cut into the FIMO underneath the nose and made to look slightly open. Add eyes by making two small holes using a wooden stick. For the buttons, make a 1 mm thick black sausage, cut thin slices off it and press onto the snowman s tummy. The striped scarf is made using 1 mm thick sheets of white and red FIMO. Cut the red sheet into 2 mm wide strips and position in regular intervals on top of the white sheet. Roll over everything using the rubber roller until the surface is smooth. Cut an approx. 4 mm wide strip out of this to serve as the scarf. It s really easy to make the hat too! To make a top hat, use a screw top or something similar to cut a round shape out of a 1 mm thick sheet of black FIMO. This is for the brim of the hat. Next, make a thin sausage, cut a 1 cm long piece off it, place on the hat brim and press on. Make a wider brim for the snowwoman s blue hat. The top part of the hat is made by slicing a ball of blue FIMO in half. Finish off the hat by decorating it with a thin ribbon and bow made out of red FIMO. That may all sound a little complicated, but don t worry it isn t!

Step 3 Now press your finished snowman onto the base plate of FIMO already prepared on the sheet of glass. Place everything in a preheated oven for 30 minutes at 130 C to harden. Then allow to cool before carefully removing the finished FIMO model from the glass using a sharp knife. Step 4 Glue the FIMO model onto the base of the snow globe. To do so, cover the entire inside surface of the plastic base with glue, following as you do so the instructions of the glue manufacturer. Then position your hardened FIMO model on top of this layer of glue making sure that the hole in the sheet of FIMO is positioned directly over the hole in the plastic base. Press everything together firmly!

Step 5 After the glue has dried and the FIMO figure is firmly in place, fill the grooves around the edge of the plastic base with glue. Spread the glue evenly in the grooves using, e.g., a toothpick to ensure a good seal all the way round. Next, place the plastic globe over your model and press firmly in place in the glue-filled grooves of the base. Allow the glue to dry for 3 hours before you fill the globe with water! Step 6 To fill the globe with water, place the snow globe upside-down in a glass. Shake half a teaspoon of snow globe snow into the globe through the opening. Then mix 160 ml of distilled water with the whole bottle (10 ml) of water clarifying agent (this ensures that bacteria will not cause the water to discolour later!) and fill into the snow globe up to the edge of the filling hole so that the air bubble in the snow globe is kept as small as possible. To do so, hold the snow globe at an angle so that the opening is at the highest point and the remaining air bubble directly underneath the opening. Before you close the globe with the small black plug, add a tiny drop of washing-up liquid. That s it!

Tips and tricks: Make sure you haven t got any glue on your hands which could get on the globe when sticking this to the base! Production, photo styling, text: Hufnagel-Design Forchheim, Photos: Burger Studios Fuerth
