VHDC300 Manual 10/9/00 2:46 PM Page 4 Using the VHDC300 VGA to Y, Pb, Pr Component Video Adapter The VHDC300 adapter converts RGB video with separate H and V sync to Y Pb Pr video with tri-level* sync on the Y signal, for use with HDTV (high definition TV) monitors which require that form of input. The adapter has been found to operate properly with a number of different monitors but it is possible there may be some with which it is not compatible. The VHDC300 is not a format converter. The output signal scan format is the same as that of the input. A 1080I RGB input with H and V sync will appear at the output as a 1080I Y, Pb, Pr signal with tri-level sync on Y. 4
VHDC300 Manual 10/9/00 2:46 PM Page 5 Installation 1. Connect the VHDC300 to the HDTV source using the supplied VGA cable. 2. Connect the Y, Pb and Pr outputs of the VHDC300 to the corresponding inputs of the HDTV monitor with the supplied component video cables. Make sure the color codes on the cable match with connectors as follows. Cable Connector Color Green Blue Red Set-top Box/Monitor Connector Y Pb Pr 3. Plug in the connector from the supplied 12 volt AC power supply and plug the supply into a 120V 60 Hz AC outlet. 4. Turn on the HDTV set-top box and monitor, and check the picture. VHDC300 Manual 10/9/00 2:46 PM Page 6 Adjustments An adjustment may be necessary to center the picture on the monitor. The VHDC300 has an access hole marked "H. ADJ". To adjust centering, insert a screwdriver into the access hole. Turn clockwise or counterclockwise as required. If turned too far in one direction the picture may disappear. If this happens, turn the adjustment back until the picture reappears. H. RGB input levels 700 mv p-p H & V sync levels 5 volt TTL Output: Y, Pb, Pr video on gold-plated RCA jacks Y, Pb, Pr levels 700 mv p-p Y, Pb, Pr color format is ATSC standard for HDTV (SMPTE-274M). Y signal includes tri-level* sync Tri-level sync +/- 300 mv p-p, (complies with EIA 770.3 standard). 6 *Horizontal sync is standard tri-level format. Vertical sync is bi-level.
