TYPICAL PROPERTIES GET THE API ADVANTAGE... Appearance: Light yellow/amber liquid Solids: 13% Solvent: >85% Water Solubility: Disperses readily in water is a water based fluorochemical solution that will impart a high degree of oil and grease resistance to paper or fiberboard. may be applied by method of size press, spray or pad. will also impart a sizing effect to paper or fiberboard. CHARACTERISTICS has no effect on the hand, color, air permeability or strength of paper. may be safely applied to paper and fiberboard designed for use as food packaging or wrapping. conforms to FDA regulation Title 21 Food and Drugs, Part 176.170 as components of paperboard in contact with aqueous and fatty foods under conditions of use b through h in paragraph (c) of section 176.170, table 2. APPLICATION Use soft water (between 60 ppm to 75 ppm total hardness) or water softened with Versene 100 (Dow Chemical Company) following the manufacturer s recommendations. The concentration of Versene 100 will vary with hardness, but generally 0.1% Versene 100 is sufficient. Water that has been softened to less than 50 ppm total hardness will create an excess amount of foam if the dilution is agitated. GET THE API ADVANTAGE... Conditions: Brown kraft paper treated with 0.3% (solids) fluorochemical. Dried / cured at 225 F for 3 minutes Dimensions of FC treated paper = 4 x 4 Dimensions of backing sheet = 4 x 4 (grid divided into 100 equal squares) Aluminum ring = 0.5 inch high, 2.75 inches inside diameter Weight = 560 grams, 2.75 inches diameter Hard rubber roller = 2352.5 grams, 1-3/4 inch wide Weight of ground Iams cat food (minimum fat content = 21%) sample = 45 grams (approximately 80 ml) Oven temperature = 140 F Time = 24 hours Test Procedure: The test samples were cut into 4 x 4 equal squares folded in half and creased using a weighted rubber roller. The samples were unfolded and the rubber roller was used again on the opened crease. Blotting paper was placed onto a metal plate. A backing sheet divided into 100 equal squares was placed underneath the 4 x 4 test sample. An aluminum ring was placed on top of each test sample; ground pet food was then placed into the aluminum rings. A 560-gram weight was placed on top of the pet food sample & then placed in a preheated oven at 140 o F for 24 hrs. The test paper and grid sheet were removed from the oven and separated. The number of stained boxes on the grid sheet were counted and reported as percent stained. Results: Product % Staining* 28% Competitive Sample A 64% Competitive Sample B 87% * % Staining = number of squares discolored on the grid sheet. PACKAGING is available in 8 oz. samples and 441-lb drums.
