Comparative Case Study: Recumbent MRI Stand-Up MRI This patient was treated for low back pain and radiculopathy by a spinal fusion of L4, L5 and S1. The recumbent scan (left) shows only a normal lordotic alignment of the vertebral column. The upright scan (right) shows a hypermobile instability of the spinal column not visible on the recumbent scan. The spinal instability results in a fluctuating and mobile spinal stenosis. Our Board Certified Radiologists Mark J. Timken, M.D. Medical Director Dr. Mark J. Timken graduated from the University of South Florida in 1989 and completed a rotating internship at Oakwood Hospital in Deerborn, Michigan. He spent the next five years specializing in General Diagnostic Radiology and graduated from the University of South Alabama Residency program at Mobile in 1995. During his tenure at Mobile, Dr. Timken was offered the Chief Resident position, and served as Director of Resident Extracurricular Work. Dr. Timken is Lifetime Certified by the American Board of Radiology, and also by the National Board of Medical Examiners. He maintained an affiliation for several years as Associate Clinical Professor at USAMC. Returning to his family in Florida, he associated with one of his former professors from Medical School for three years. In 1998 he branched out to form Professional Radiology Associates, PA. In 2008, Dr. Timken left Professional Radiology Associates, PA to form his own company, Timken Radiology, PA. Dr. Timken's work experience as a General Diagnostic Radiologist includes extensive cross coverage for many of the regional Hospitals and Radiologists throughout Florida, Georgia and Alabama. Our Board Certified Radiologists Alex Boutselis MD Section Head: PET-CT, MRI, CT Dr. Boutselis is a superb and uniquely qualified radiologist with extensive oncologic PET, CT, and Diagnostic Radiology experience. He received his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and completed graduate studies in Advanced Training in Positron Emission Tomography at Duke University. Dr. Boutselis previous work experience includes providing interpretation services for PET/CT, MRI, and CT, at several large Acute Care Hospitals in Lafayette, Indiana. He also previously served as Co-Founder and General Director for InnerVision Advanced Medical Imaging Center, a full-service imaging center with special emphasis on PET/CT imaging. Dr. Sammarco graduated from The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1988, and completed her residency in Diagnostic Radiology in 1993 from Case W e s t e r n R e s e r v e U n i v e r s i t y - MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio in 1993. She also completed a two-year accredited fellowship in Diagnostic Neuroradiology, at the UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles, California in 1995. She is board certified in Radiology and has her Certificate of Added Qualifications in Neuroradiology. His musculoskeletal MRI fellowship has led to extensive musculoskeletal experience working with Orthopods and Orthopedic Surgeons. His previous experience as Founder and Senior Radiologist for Lubbock Diagnostic Radiology has been a tremendous asset. Our Board Certified Radiologists Steven Brooks Jones, MD Section Head, Body Imaging: MRI, CT, Subspecialty MSK, Neuroradiology Dr. Steve Jones specializes in neuroradiology and musculoskeletal imaging. Dr. Jones received his medical degree from the Tulane University S c h o o l o f M e d i c i n e i n 1 9 8 9. He completed his Radiology Residency at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California in 1992, and completed his fellowship in Neuro & MSK at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2008. He co-founded Innervision Advanced Medical Imaging Center in Lafayette, Indiana, and was a primary MRI specialist at that center. Dr. McNamee completed his Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Prior to completing his Radiology program, Dr. McNamee completed formal training in Hematology and Oncology, and was on Associate Staff at The Cleveland Clinic.
