A PRAYER in CELEBRATION of OUR MOTHERS Mother of Christ, Star of the sea, be our beacon in distress. Guard us to the shores of everlasting day God s holy people on their pilgrim way. Coming together as the daughters and sons of a loving and provident God, we pause and recall that You, O God, are always with us. You are like a mother hen that gathers her chicks to herself. We praise You. We thank You and we adore You, O God of All Creation. Honor your father and your mother as the Lord God has commanded you that your days may be prolonged, that it may go well with you in the land the Lord has given you. Deuteronomy 5: 16 Listen to your father who begot you, and despise not your mother when she is old. Proverbs 23: 22 Her children arise and call her blessed. Proverbs 31: 28 My child, hear the instruction of your father and forsake not the laws of your mother. Proverbs 1: 8 Now there stood at the cross of Jesus, His mother, His mother s sister, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw His mother and the beloved disciple, He said to His mother, Behold your son. And He said to the disciple, Behold your mother. John 19; 25-26

Mother of holy hope and of love everlasting, O, pray for us. Praise to Mary, Heaven s Gate; Guiding Star of Christian s way, Mother of our Lord and King, Light and hope to souls astray. Mary, show your motherhood, Bring your children s prayer to Christ, Christ your Son Who ransomed us, Who for us was sacrificed. Guide us in this earthly life, Guard us lest, deceived, we fall. Mary, help us live our faith So that we may see your Son; Join our humble prayers to yours Till life is over and is done. Praise the Father, praise the Son, Praise the Holy Paraclete; Offer all through Mary s hands, Let her make our prayers complete. Proverbs 1: 1-5 May all people appreciate wisdom and discipline, may they understand words of intelligence. May they receive training in wise conduct, in what is right, just and honest. May resourcefulness be imparted to them, to the young, knowledge and discretion. A wise man and woman by hearing them will advance in learning, an intelligent daughter or son will gain sound guidance. Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the open squares she raises her voice; down the crowded ways she calls out, at the city gates she utters her words. They who obey her dwell in security, in peace, without fear of harm.

Psalm 113 Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord! May the name of the Lord be blessed both now and for evermore! From the rising of the sun to its setting praise be the name of the Lord. From the dust the Lord lifts up the lowly, from their misery, the Lord raises the poor. To the childless wife the Lord gives a home and gladdens her heart with children. Glory to You, Source of All Being, Eternal Word and Holy Spirit. As it was, is now, and shall ever be. Amen. Mary, holy Mother of God, pray for our mothers living and deceased. Holy Mary, pray for all women. Star of the Sea, guide all mothers. O Mother most loving, pray for all mothers. O Mother most patient, pray for all mothers. O Mother full of forgiveness, pray for all mothers. O Mother filled with kindness and compassion, pray for all mothers. O Mother, cause of our joy, pray for all mothers. O Mother of wisdom and knowledge, pray for all mothers. O Mother of God, pray for all women who wish to be mothers. O Mother of Mercy, be with those mothers who have gone astray. O Mary, Giver of the Light and Life of the world, watch over those who have terminated life. O Mary, our Model and Guide, lead all to your Son, Jesus.

Let us pray: O God, we praise and thank You for giving us Your Mother as our Mother. May she ever lead us to You and protect us from all danger and harm. We pray too, in thanksgiving for our birth mothers or adopted mothers, step-mothers and foster mothers whether living or deceased. We thank You for the love they gave us, for nurturing us in our holy faith and for bringing us to You. We are grateful for the many sacrifices they made and make on our behalf. Fill their hearts with joy and satisfaction for all their efforts in raising up their children. All glory and honor to You, Almighty and Loving God for giving us the gift of our mothers. Amen. And Mary said: My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for He has been mindful of the humble state of His servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me. Holy is His name. Holy are God s gifts. His mercy extends to those who fear Him from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered those who are proud in their innermost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones and has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. He has helped His servant, Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and Sarah and their descendants forever even as He has said to our fathers and mothers. Luke 1: 46-55

Glory to You, Source of All Being, Eternal Word, and Holy Spirit. As it was, is now, and ever shall be. Amen. O Blessed Mary, ever Virgin, chosen daughter of the Father, watch over all your children and keep them from harm. Saint John Baptist de La Salle and all you holy Brothers who have gone before us, instill in us a spirit of admiration and thankfulness for all mothers. Live Jesus in our hearts. Forever!
