After his honorable discharge he was employed by the Lane County Sheriff s Office leaving so he could begin a more than 25 year career with the Oregon State Police (OSP). For over 13 of his 25 year career with OSP he was an A.C.T.A.R accredited collision reconstruction specialist. Mr. Craig has investigated hundreds of collisions since beginning his career as a first responder and has successfully completed over 900 hours of training specific to collision investigation. Joseph Craig held the rank of Senior Trooper and was assigned to the Patrol Services Division in the Collision Reconstruction Program. He has written portions of the training curriculum and investigation manuals and was one of the primary report/case reviewing officers for OSP that was tasked with critically reviewing cases. He was a primary instructor for the Oregon State Police in the fields of Collision Investigation, Technical Collision Investigation and Collision Reconstruction. He was an instructor at the Oregon State Police Academy and D.P.S.S.T. as well as being the Field Training Officer for 5 Recruit Troopers. He has taught advanced topics to attorneys in Oregon and Idaho at Lethal Weapon conferences and was able to make complex topics understandable. He has presented on Collision Reconstruction topics at many schools, civic organizations, ODOT Three Flags conferences, and public agencies. He assisted county and city agencies throughout Oregon, the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, and the Idaho State Police with either on scene collision reconstruction assistance or case/report review at a later time. He assisted numerous District Attorney Offices throughout Oregon, Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, and the District Attorney s Office in Coeur d Alene, Idaho with technical review and consultation on cases submitted by another agency and provided conclusions based on the supplied information. Joseph Craig provided technical assistance and expert testimony for the Department of Justice on a civil lawsuit. MISCELLANEOUS I have conducted testing and research relative to collision reconstruction methodology Driver in 2 staged collisions to test/demonstrate angular momentum solutions and vector sum analysis. Crashed 2 motorcycles into stationary vehicles to test momentum solutions applicable to motorcycle crashes. Assisted in the roll-over of three vehicles to test tumble drag factors. Assisted in the crash of nine vehicles into a fixed pole, a fixed barrier and other parked vehicles to test crush energy formulas and validate crush profiling techniques. Conducted independent testing on tow truck and fire trucks to test effects of commercial vehicle brake systems, and the effect of "loading" of each vehicle.
