UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME Voluntary Personal Property and Personal Accident Insurance Plan Description and Application Revised 12/96 This brochure supersedes and replaces all previous editions. The description of insurance coverage in this brochure is a summary only. The coverage is subject to terms and conditions outlined and certain restrictions, limitations and exclusions contained in the policy of insurance. In the event of any conflict between the following description of coverage and the policy of insurance, the provisions contained in the policy of insurance will govern. Coverage is underwritten by The Insurance Company of the State of Pennsylvania, a member company of American International Group, Inc. Rev. 12/96 A Voluntary Worldwide Group Personal Property Insurance and Personal Accident Insurance Plan for Specialized Agencies and Organizations of the United Nations System. Available through THE UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME And Insurance Representatives: JAMISON INSURANCE GROUP Herbert L. Jamison & Co., L.L.C. 100 Executive Drive West Orange, N.J. 07052-3362 U.S.A. Insuring Company: Insurance Company of The State of Pennsylvania Underwritten through: AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL UNDERWRITERS INC. 505 Carr Road R23-74 Wilmington, DE 19809 U.S.A. Personal Property Insurance WHAT IS THE INSURANCE COVERAGE? The insurance is All Risks of physical loss or damage to personal belongings and household furnishings owned or used by you or members of your family within your household and residing with you. WHAT IS ALL RISKS All Risks is probably the broadest type of insurance for personal belongings available and covers such perils as Fire, Lightening, Flood, Burglary, Theft, Explosion, Windstorm, and so forth. The main perils not covered are: Breakage of fragile articles; Wear and Tear; Damage due to Dampness

or Extremes of Temperature, Moths, Vermin; Earthquake; Theft from unlocked vehicles; War, Mutiny, Insurrection and similar activities. WHAT KIND OF PROPERTY IS NOT COVERED? Animals; automobiles*, aircraft, motorcycles, boats and their parts and accessories; Damage to the building you live in or occupy is not covered, e.g. to door locks or breakage of windows. Property of guests, roommates, landlords, common-law spouses is excluded. Business personal property is not covered away from your residence. *Note: Automobile Physical Damage Insurance is available from UNDP through the American International Group. Contact Jamison for details. WHAT IS THE AMOUNT OF INSURANCE ON VALUABLE ARTICLES? Cash is limited to. $100 Coin and stamp collections.$500 Personal documents.$500 Jewelry, watches, gold, silverware and the like, and furs.$2500 each loss by Burglary, Robbery, Theft or Disappearance Cameras, Computers, their equipment and accessories 20% of total Personal Property insurance purchased subject to a maximum $2500 each by Burglary, Robbery, Theft or Disappearance. Theft from Locked Vehicle. $500 CAN I PURCHASE ADDITIONAL COVERAGE ON VALUABLE ITEMS? No. Because of the poor loss experience for valuable items, the Insurance Company reluctantly cannot offer additional coverage. DO I HAVE TO SUBMIT A LIST OF ALL BELONGINGS AND THOSE OF MY FAMILY WHEN APPLYING FOR INSURANCE? No, but we suggest that you keep a listing of all your belongings with current values and insure the total value. Many Agencies require an inventory when you are being assigned overseas. This should be updated periodically. For high value items, particularly jewelry, silverware and cameras, loss adjusters will need appraisals or bills of sale. HOW MUCH INSURANCE MAY I PURCHASE? From a minimum of $5,000 to a maximum of $100,000 see application. IS PROPERTY COVERED OUTSIDE OF MY RESIDENCE OR IF I CHANGE DUTY STATION? Yes, the policy is worldwide and covers your personal property while you are traveling. However, there is no insurance on belongings which are usually situated throughout the year at locations other 2

than your residence at your Duty Station. See application for options of insuring property of children away at school and property stored in a commercial storage facility. IS PROPERTY INSURED WHILE BEING SHIPPED? No, property while being transported on cargo vessels and aircraft is not covered unless it accompanies you or your family as personal baggage. There is no coverage once your property is accepted by the shippers. WHAT IS THE COST OF THE INSURANCE? Please refer to the application form which accompanies this brochure, Premiums are subject to change and all Duty Stations will be advised of any changes in advance. IS THERE A MINIMUM PREMIUM FOR PROPERTY INSURANCE? Yes, refer to the application form. Personal Property Insurance Claims Procedure HOW TO FILE A CLAIM? If your property is lost or destroyed, make a report as soon as possible and forward it to Herbert L. Jamison & Co., L.L.C. 100 Executive Drive, West Orange, N.J. 07052-3362 U.S.A. through the United Nations Development Programme Division of Personnel or directly to Jamison. If there has been a Robbery, Theft, Burglary or Disappearance, you must also inform the local authorities and send a copy of their response with your claim. A stock of claim forms is held by the local UNDP Office, by UNDP Headquarters and by Jamison. HOW ARE LOSSES PAID? Losses are paid on an Actual Cash Value Basis. This is defined as the cost to replace or repair the lost or damaged item less any depreciation since it was originally purchased. IS THERE A DEDUCTIBLE? Yes. A $250 deductible is applied to the total amount of the claim, (Not to each item). This is subject to change. EXPLAIN ACTUAL CASH VALUE Actual Cash Value is defined by underwriters as replacement cost less depreciation. For example, a couch purchased four years ago for $1,000.00 is destroyed in a fire. Today, a similar couch might cost $1,500.00. Assuming that the average life of a couch is 12 years, one third of its life has passed at the time of loss. The loss adjustment is as follows: Replacement Cost $ 1,500.00 Less 331/3% $ 500.00 3

Deductible $ 250.00 Final Settlement $ 750.00 NOTE: In the case of high value items, the Insurance Company may require evidence that the property has been or will be replaced. If not replaced, adjustment of the claim will be made using the original cost as a guide. HOW DO I PROVIDE VALUES WHERE I HAVE NO RECEIPTS OR APPRAISALS? Remember, that you have to prove your loss to the Insurance Company. We suggest that your valuables such as jewelry, silverware, paintings, objects d art be periodically appraised. Failing this, the Insurance Company will require as complete details of the lost or damaged item as possible. This should include full description, when and where purchased, actual cost, and/or estimate of today s value. Cancelled cheques, receipts, bills are important since they confirm ownership as well as value. The claim form which you will be asked to complete provides guidance on this point. We stress the importance of having good records. WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE OTHER INSURANCE AT THE TIME A LOSS OCCURS? If you are entitled to recover from other sources, e.g. an airline which loses your baggage, another insurance policy or an arrangement with your parent Organization, after a loss occurs, that insurance or reimbursement arrangement will be considered primary coverage. The American International Underwriters will then make their payment only after that other settlements have been made. It will be on the basis of the difference between the amount of loss you have suffered and the reimbursement obtained from the other source, subject to the limit of the insurance you have purchased under this programme and all other policy terms and conditions. HOW SOON MUST I PRESENT A CLAIM? The underwriters require that all necessary claims documentation be completed within 180 days of the date of the loss. IN WHICH CURRENCY WILL CLAIMS BE PAID? In U.S. Dollars. Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance MUST I PURCHASE ACCIDENTAL DEATH AND DISMEMBERMENT INSURANCE? No. It is optional. WHAT IF MY SPONSORING ORGANIZATION ALREADY COVERS ME FOR ACCIDENTAL DEATH INSURANCE? This programme offers additional insurance which you purchase voluntarily. CAN MY SPOUSE AND CHILDREN BUY THIS INSURANCE? 4

Yes, but only if you have also purchased the insurance. Your spouse cannot buy more insurance than you buy. Children can only be insured for $10,000 each and must be between the ages of 3 months and 21 years old, completely dependent upon you for support. WHAT DOES ACCIDENTAL MEAN? It has been interpreted as an unexpected, violent, external and visible act which causes death and injury. WHAT IS THE INSURANCE COVERAGE? However, you will receive a numbered certificate as evidence of your coverage. The certificate will contain a detailed outline of the insurance. It will be sent to you by Pouch. Approximately six weeks prior to the end of that time, you will be advised of the renewal requirements via UN Pouch to your Duty Station. WHAT HAPPENS IF MY ASSIGNMENT OR SERVICE ENDS DURING THE TERM OF THE INSURANCE? Upon request, the unused portion of your premium will be refunded unless it is less than $25. 6

MAY I CHANGE THE AMOUNT OF INSURANCE? Any changes should be made at renewal of your individual certificate of insurance. However, if you need to substantially increase your insurance coverage, advise Jamison either by letter or application. The additional premium required must be sent at the same time. The additional cost should be prorated from the first month following your request for increase until the expiration date of your certificate. CAN MY POLICY BE CANCELLED BECAUSE OF LOSSES? The Insurance Company reserves the right, after discussion with UNDP Headquarters, to refuse to offer renewal, restrict your coverage or apply surcharges if your claims record is unduly frequent or severe. We urge you to take great care with your possessions and in particular never leave anything in a car locked or unlocked. CAN INSURANCE BE PURCHASED FOR LESS THAN A YEAR? No. But see above for procedure when you separate from U.N. service. WHAT IF I CHANGE DUTY STATIONS? Your premium will not change if you are transferred to another Duty Station. No. WHAT ABOUT CHANGES IN POLICY COVERAGES? All participants will be advised of any programme changes prior to the time of their individual certificate is due for renewal.
