Module 10: Developing Leadership Competencies for Nurse Executives in ASEAN Community Contents concluded by Head of 3 participants groups in LCM Project: Dr Wallapa Songprakhun, Thailand, Dr Chong Mei Chan, Malaysia, and Air Vice Marshal Supit Prasopsil, Thailand Presented by Dr Wallapa Songprakhun, Dean of McCormick Faculty of Nursing, Payap University On behalf of the LCM participants who actively attended both the online course of 10 modules and the face-to-face intensive seminar on Leadership Development and Change Management for Nurse Executives in ASEAN Countries during July 24-26, 2014 at Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University in Thailand, I would like to present the contents construction of Module 10. The conclusion is drawn from integrating both tacit knowledge and explicit knowledge following the knowledge sharing among leaders from Thailand, Malaysia, and Myanmar. The leaders came from the government, private sector, educational and services institutions. They have concluded the best practice in terms of nursing leadership competencies as presented below. What is Leadership? Leadership has been described as "a process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task. What is Competency? Competency is an expected level of performance that integrates knowledge, skills, abilities and judgment. Leadership Competencies for Nurse Executives in ASEAN Community. The competencies listed on this presentation are described into three domains; 1) Knowledge 2) Practice (Skill) 3) Attitude What are the leadership competencies relevant to nurse executives in ASEAN? Why relevant leadership competencies are important to nurse executives in ASEAN? How to develop the leadership competencies? Knowledge : Nurse Executives in ASEAN community must have knowledge competency in 1) Transcultural nursing 2) Research and innovation 3) Information communication technology (ICT) 4) Legal, ethic, policy, and health act regulations Knowledge: 1) Transcultural Nursing 1. Knowing about cultural differences among ASEAN countries in order to have better understand believe related to health behaviors 2. Enable delivery of nursing care efficiently and effectively in different cultures 3. To develop mutual understanding of their beliefs, needs, value, culture across ASEAN Nurses 1. Survey the basic knowledge of Transcultural Nursing (TCN) 2. Provide information for the nurses regarding cultural differences 3. Conduct training/ seminar/workshop to explore the approaches for patients care from the different cultures 4. Revise and integrate the diverse cultural component in nursing curriculums 99
4. To promote and facilitate collaborations internationally 5. Encourage and provide opportunity for nurses to visit and exchange their knowledge with other countries in ASEAN by educational visit. 6. Create network to share knowledge 7. Using social media to improve knowledge for examples, watch movies, Meeting, Reading books and surfing internet. 8. Access to transcultural web for ASEAN Knowledge: 2) Research and Innovation 1. Research and evidence base provide supporting data for nurses to plan, work, predict the trend, make decision and develop strategies. 2.
