Advanced Diploma in Islamic Finance intro Islamic Finance has witnessed an exponential growth trajectory in the past decade, with Islamic Banks operating across more than 20 countries and 6 continents and boasting growth rates double to that of conventional banks. As a result, there is now more than ever, a critical need for banking professionals who are grounded in their understanding of the substance and form of Islamic Finance. The Advanced Diploma in Islamic Finance offers a qualification addressing the needs of both Islamic and conventional financial institutions providing Islamic Banking services and products. The program has been designed to: 1. Provide a professional qualification for commerce graduates to initiate a career in the banking sector. 2. Enhance career opportunities for those who are already in the banking sector but require a professional qualification. It emphasizes the practical aspects of Islamic banking while providing a fair grounding of the jurisprudential foundations of Islamic banking.

Objectives course facts To provide students with an understanding of the jurisprudential and theoretical fundamentals of Islamic Banking and Finance. To provide an appreciation of the investment regulations relating to the banking industry and to Islamic banks in particular. To provide an intellectually stimulating environment in which students can develop their knowledge, understanding and analysis of Islamic financial markets, institutions and systems operating around the globe. To develop in students the ability to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired to the solution of practical problems in their professional banking careers. To train executives desiring specialization in Islamic banking and finance in order to assist expansion in the banking and finance industry.

Programme Structure Advanced Diploma in Islamic Finance program is run flexibly in to suit the working hours of professionals, while simultaneously offering a number of sessions to give candidates the opportunity to fast track their progression. The program is structured on an 18 weeks semester system and students are required to complete six modules, each having 50 in class hours. The modules are as follows and can be completed in any order: 1. Islamic Commercial Jurisprudence. 2. Introduction to Trust, Banking and Business Laws. 3. Islamic Insurance (Takaful). 4. Islamic Treasury, Capital Markets and Risk Management. 5. Islamic Banking Operations. 6. Introduction to Islamic Accounting Standards. Intended Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this program, graduates should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of: The jurisprudential and theoretical foundations of Islamic Banking and Finance. The basic regulations (accounting) and laws (commercial, banking and trust laws) applying to banks in general and Islamic banks in particular. The basic jurisprudential principles of Islamic Insurance (Takaful) and its operational application by Islamic financial institutions. The forms of financing instruments (retail, investment and treasury) utilized in Islamic finance and the contexts in which they are applied. The practical day to day operations of Islamic banks in detail. Operations of financial markets, institutions and infrastructure within an Islamic system. The current issues facing Islamic Financial Institutions and the overall Islamic Finance industry.

Admission Criteria The Program is conducted in English and as a result, candidates are expected to have a good working knowledge of English in order to progress through the course of study. Applicants, who have completed or who are exempt from the Business English level BEP Level 4, can enroll in the diploma program, Applicants who can demonstrate prior knowledge of commerce, banking or finance either with: Relevant work experience. For instance, middle level management experience in finance or banking, However, candidates having relevant experience may be required to complete Economics, Accounting-I and Accounting-II from BSDP Program- prior to enrolling in to ADIF program. Business, Commerce, Banking or Finance degree from a recognized University or other relevant national/ international professional qualifications. Applicants may be required to take an entry examination and/or interview for enrolling into the Advance Diploma in Islamic Finance Programme. Teaching and Learning methods Learning and teaching is provided through lectures, seminars, group work and case studies. Contact and feedback is typically provided through projects, coursework assessment (e.g. essays, tests, etc.), lectures, seminars, group work, and one-to-one contact with staff within the personal tutoring system.

Assessment Regulations For each module of the program, a participant is required to attend 50 in-class hours, complete the required written assignments/quizzes and pass the final exam. All students are required to ensure a MINIMUM attendance of 80% in order to qualify to sit for Mid-Term and Final examinations, an exceptional circumstances participant with less than 80% attendance may be permitted to sit for final examination at the discretion of center. Participants with less than 80% attendance should request their employer to verify the reason(s) for absence. Such verification must be in writing and addressed to the Head of the Center for Islamic Finance. A participant must achieve a minimum mark, overall to achieve pass each module (subject) with minimum 50% marks in final examination. Each module may also have specific requirements that need to be met in order to gain credit for the module. Participants, who achieve less than 50% but more than 40% marks both overall and in final examination, will be eligible to attend an alternative exam. Fees The program fee structure (in Bahraini Dinars) is as follows: Registration: Fee per module: 15 (Non-refundable) 400 (For every 50 hours) Alternative Exam Fee: 25 Fees are payable at the time of registration for a module. Failure to pay shall result in expulsion from the program. Module Fees are fully refundable (100%) if the candidate decides to withdraw one week prior to the commencement of the course. Module Fees are NOT refunded if withdrawal takes place at any time later than one week prior to commencement of the course. Registration Application forms can be filed until one week prior to the start of the term. Candidates who are sponsored by their organizations must submit their application forms through their training managers (Registration forms enclosed).
