I congratulate you for showing interest in your own success and being ready to learn. I have been working closely with teachers and academicians for over a decade now and I can tell you from my experience that teaching is an art. It is not about ensuring that you have completed the syllabus... No! It is about ensuring that the syllabus is being understood and registered in the minds of the students. You must understand that however hard you try to teach well, if you are working against the principles of effective teaching, you can never expect the results you want out of your teaching efforts. What are these principles and how can you apply them to your teaching and to your life is something that I will be explaining in the coming pages to you. The concepts & techniques that you are about to experience are so powerful that they can never fail to give you desired results. Many of my students, teachers and readers believe that these secrets must be taught to all teachers in all schools and colleges. I personally believe that if these principles are taught in their strict sense, these could revolutionize the entire education system and no student will ever find it hard to acquire the degree of education that he is after. Dear teacher, you now have in your hand, the most powerful tips that have ever been written for teachers. You will now uncover the secrets of effective teaching and now it is up to you to utilize and apply these principles because knowledge is nothing without putting it into action. All the best and I hope to receive an email from you on the 5 secrets once you have read them all! Thank You Nitin Soni Author & Founder Super Power Student www.superpowerstudent.com

SECRET#1 BUILD POSITIVE RELATIONSHIP The No.1 requirement to become an effective teacher is to build a positive relationship with your students. Teaching begins with winning their confidence & interest. If you are able to build a good relationship with your students a relationship that is friendly & harmonious trust me, your 50% job is done! Don t worry about the time you might waste (read: invest) on this effort because this is the best investment you d ever make in your teaching career. Why? Because then you get their cooperation in whatever you want them to do. You want them to study well? They will. You want them to behave well? They will! Yes Ma am THEY WILL! When you begin a new session... Hey! Why wait for a new session? Begin tomorrow, put everything aside when you walk into that classroom and just... just spend quality time with your students... laugh with them... talk to them about the topics they want to talk about. Build relationships everything else is secondary! How to build relationships? Discuss ideas, things & people (in the same order) other than your subject Share good stories (Most effective way) Be genuinely interested in your students Appreciate them for small things (appreciation is intoxicating) Make students laugh, clap and have fun Focus your relationship building efforts on students who are not so good in studies. The toppers can & will take care of themselves but you must focus on bringing the best out of the one sitting lonely & hiding at the end of the class. If students come to you with their personal problems Congratulations! You have built the right relationship foundations with them... now simply carry on with the good work... You keep on caring about them and you ll see them caring about you & your subjects. You know what! The best part about building relationship is that it s a onetime effort. You just need to enter their hearts... and you ll stay there forever... All the best!

SECRET#2 PROGRAM MINDS I know, I know what you are thinking! You are silently saying, Sir! Relationship is fine but we need to ensure they score well in our subjects, top those exams and bring those trophies! Yaaa.. That s right. It s a cruel world which won t judge you just on the basis of your relationships with students but is interested in the mark sheets and the trophies. Alright then, let s talk business! If you want to ensure your students do well in your subjects program their mind to do so! You know, we have two minds conscious & subconscious. Over 90% of our life is controlled by our subconscious mind. It s the one who is controlling our body functions and directing our behaviour and shaping our personality. It is the one that s controlling your breathing right now. And now, the most amazing revelation! Whatever suggestion you give to your subconscious mind it begins the most marvellous process in the world converting it into reality! Yes, you read that right! When a statement is continuously entertained by the conscious mind, it reaches subconscious mind and registers itself. The subconscious mind then begins to lead the body in such actions that the statement in fact becomes a reality. So if I begin to say I cannot score good marks in Mathematics and repeatedly reaffirm this statement. It will become my belief & begin to get stored into my subconscious mind. The subconscious mind will then direct the body actions in such a way that the statement in fact becomes a reality and in reality I will not score good marks in Mathematics. Understand that it is the repetition of affirmations that lead to belief. If you want the students to do well in your subjects however hard the subject is or however unintelligent your students are, just follow this advice and you ll be amazed to see the results within a couple of months. Do This: Before and after every session, make students repeat the below sentence loudly and then make them write it at the back of their copies Daily! I love Science (or any other subject) and science is my strongest subject The key is to make them reaffirm the positive sentence daily because then it reaches their subconscious mind and once it reaches there (it takes a few weeks/months) the real magic begins!

SECRET#3 USE FULL BRAIN POWER There are two sides of your brain logical and creative. Sometimes they are symbolized by the two sides of brain left and right. Left brain being your reasoning & logical brain and right brain is the creative brain. By nature your right brain is more powerful. It s like 60/40. Your right brain is more powerful than the left one. Same is true for your students. The right brain in involved only when you include the below two things in the study style. Images and pictures Understanding Whenever students cram and learn by rote technique, only their left brain is involved. So if I do not understand what I am studying and if I am not studying with pictures and mental images I am not harnessing the full power of my brain. It is like, using only 40% of the resources while 60% remains untapped. Is that a good situation to be in? The reason why students do not like some subjects and fail to score good in them is because the moment they begin to study the boring subject the creative side of brain doesn t cooperate. So they try to study with 60% of their brain not cooperating and soon they give up because by nature their creative brain is more powerful than the logical one. In order to harness the full powers of their brain, follow the below two steps: Increase understanding: Human brain loves exploring and knowing new things and gaining more insight of the world. Therefore if you wish your students to concentrate on studies; explain & help them understand the material. Comprehend it. Try to relate the understanding to the real world. It must make sense to them. Use imagination: Since you cannot use pictures and images all the time, you must make them use their imagination to form mental images, pictures, stories, motion pictures etc so as to tap the potential of their right brain. Understand that their creative side of the brain understands images better than text. Images are processed faster, retained longer and retrieved quicker by the brain. The more pictures & imagination they use the better it is.

SECRET#4 LET THEM TEACH National Training Laboratories (Maine) researched and created The Learning Pyramid. The learning pyramid depicts deferent study styles and their corresponding effectiveness in terms of the percentage of information retained in mind for each type. Lecture - 5% - Your students forget 95% of what you teach them orally. Reading 10% - Students remember 10% and forget 90% of what they read from books. Audio/Visual 20% - The smart class concept helps remember 20% of the content. Demonstration 30% - Make sure you help student understand concepts by demonstrating them in the real life examples and practical. Group Discussion 50% - Encourage a learning environment where students discuss the concepts and learning because it helps to remember 50% of the contents. Practice by doing 75% - The more practical problems they solve related to the topic the better their understanding & retention will be. Teaching others 90% - Now this is the best way to ensure that the students remember 90% of what they study. Make them teach themselves. Let me explain you how. Recognizing the importance and effectiveness of Teaching others concept, many schools and teachers across the world follow the style of teaching that I am disclosing now When you want to begin a new chapter or concept. Let students read, prepare, gather information (using internet/reference books etc) on it. Then divide the class into groups and let each group explain the concept to the entire class. You also become a part of the listening section. Let other students ask relevant questions to the presenting group. You also ask very relevant key questions that you know students should be aware of regarding that topic. Once done, now you present/teach/explain the entire chapter to them. There are two benefits of this technique. First You ll get access to a lot of new information as a result of their research on the topic. Second Students would already know most part of the concept you want to teach them. You are the expert of your subject because you ve been teaching it for years now, if you want your students to become expert in the subject let them teach!

SECRET#5 SYSTEMATIC REVISION A teacher s job is not to complete the syllabus but it is to ensure that the syllabus has been understood, retained and remembered by the students. Hermann Ebbinghaus of Germany had discovered the concept of Forgetting Curve in 1885. It says that we forget 80% of what we learn within 24 hours! That s huge! That means your students are bound to forget what you taught them the previous day! So what is the solution? The solution is Systematic revision. You have two types of memory short term and long term. Short term memory: temporary storehouse of information. Here information is stored for a very short time. Long term memory: stores information permanently which can be retrieved even after months and years. When students study something, it goes to their short term memory and soon fades away. The only way to transfer information from short term memory to long term memory is by systematic revision. Revision means revisiting or re-reading something so as to memorize it. The only method to overcome forgetting curve... the only method to transfer information from short term to long term memory is revision. One of the biggest misconceptions about revision is that one should complete the entire subject and then revise the entire subject. This approach is wrong. To harness the power of revision one must do systematic revision. Since we forget almost 80% of what we learn within the next 24 hours. The secret is to make students revise whatever you teach within the next 24 hours. Revise it again after 3 days and yet again after 7 days. Now you can be rest assured that they won t forget it. The beauty of systematic revision is that the time with each revision drastically reduces. So if it took you 1 hour to teach something for the first time, the first revision will only take about 15 minutes while the second only 5 minutes and so on. Before next session, just revisit the previous session. Take regular tests and keep refreshing their memories.
