A - General Description Programme Title - Gestão e Administração de Serviços de Saúde Qualification awarded - Bachelor's degree in Health Care Services Management Level of qualification - First-Cycle degree, ISCED Level 5, EQF Level 6 Specific admission requirements General In order to be eligible to this bachelor's degree, students must hold the high-school diploma or legally equivalent qualification. Application can also be made through the following special entry routes: Students coming from the Portuguese education system through re-admission, degree change and transfer schemes; Holders of a Foundation Course Diploma (CET); Adults aged more than 23 who have passed tailor-made examinations intended to assess their ability to pursue higher education studies; Holders of Intermediary or Graduate degree diplomas; Students coming from foreign higher education. Specific Applicants who have passed one of the following national access examinations are eligible for direct entry in the bachelor's degree in Health Care Services Management. Without prejudice to the general admission requirements and based on IPT's internal regulations, the following applicants may be admitted to the bachelor's degree, but subject to admission quotas: - applicants coming from the following regions: Castelo Branco, Leiria, Portalegre and Santarém (30%); -the applicants who have completed in the preceding year Technological Specialisation Courses offered by IPT and; - the applicants who have completed level 4 Vocational Programs (20%). Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning (formal, non-formal and informal) General Procedures on the recognition of credits gained in previous learning are established in the regulations for the Recognition and Validation of Qualifications and Skills of ESGT-IPT available at http://webmanager.ipt.pt/mgallery/default.asp?obj=4535 Specific Qualification requirements and regulations: 180 ECTS credits distributed across 6 curricular semesters (3 years), each with 40 weeks of full-time study (20 weeks per semester). These qualification are based on the provisions set out in Decree-law No.74/2006, dated 24 March. Profile of the program: This programme has been designed and structured to provide the students with skills and abilities to understand topics such as the intervening factors in resources management, processes and behaviours in healthcare organizations, as well as how to incorporate in their performance a prospective, long-term, strategic vision of their organizations within the context of evolution of the health system. Key learning outcomes: On completion of this program in Health Care Services Management students should: 1. Reveal to have acquired appropriate knowledge of current health system, have basic economic reasoning skills, know the epidemiology principles and its practical applications to clinical management as well as have basic foundations of conventional and innovative organisational models for hospital visits, with or without hospitalisation, external consultation, hospital emergency and its economical and organisational implications, both internal and external; 2. Be familiar with current management models of public and private clinical units; 3. Have a good understanding of management tools and be able to apply them to improve the effectiveness of health units having in mind the peculiarities of each type of health organisation. That includes health care organisations (hospitals, health centres, clinics, etc.). 4. Reveal to have acquired competences in multidisciplinary matters such as strategic analysis and health care trends; information systems and the dynamics and evolutionary trends of the public health care system directing the acquisition of practical skills to the management of key areas within enterprises and organisations within this activity sector such as innovation and change management, health quality, health teams management, support to decision-making and financial management, health investment analysis and management support to clinical care as well as organisational change programs in health care units. Occupational profiles of graduates with examples: This Health Care Services Management program aims at training individuals to occupy management positions within this activity sector. Among others, graduates from this program are prepared to perform as: medical sales representatives; health product and consumables managers; assistant managers within health care services; assistant managers in health centres; quality health care managers; home care support managers; health care information and statistics managers; specialist technician within local/central government bodies; manager and analyst of health technologies; analyst and consultant within the health care sector, trainer. Access to further studies: The Health Care Services Management degree allows access to postgraduate and second-cycle programs (Masters). Graduates from this study program have the opportunity to proceed their studies at the ESGT by applying for the Master's degree in Health Resources Management.
