Irrigation System and Landscape Water Efficiency Rebate Program The Abbotsford Mission Water & Sewer Commission is offering a rebate program for improving outdoor water use efficiency for properties on the regional water system. This will be accomplished by improving irrigation system efficiencies and retrofitting landscapes with water wise plant species. The program details are described below. Improved Irrigation System Efficiency Pilot Project The irrigation system efficiency rebate is $500 for projects with a total cost of $1,500 or more. The applicant must hire an approved contractor with the IIABC. Companies listed on the IIABC website that have a Certified Irrigation Scheduler on staff will be considered to be approved contractors. A list of approved contractors in the lower mainland is shown in Schedule A. An application for the irrigation system efficiency rebate must be sent to the IIABC by the contractor prior to starting the project. This is required to ensure that the Pilot Project does not exceed the budgeted amount. An application form is attached in Schedule B. The contractor of choice must be shown on the application form. The irrigation system upgrade must improve irrigation efficiency by a minimum of 15%. This can be accomplished by: o Replacing rotors and spray heads with rotators, drip or microspray systems o Ensuring sprinklers are properly spaced and have matched precipitation o Installing a new time clock with program adjustment capability using remote sensors o Installing rain sensors, climate monitoring sensors or soils moisture sensors o Pressure reduction and backflow preventor o Setting the irrigation controller for an appropriate time schedule and providing the homeowner with appropriate technical guidance. The irrigation contractor must provide the following: o Verify the irrigation system efficiency improvement that has been achieved on the site. o Verify that an appropriate irrigation schedule has been set in the clock. o Provide an invoice of total project cost including labour. o Sign the program rebate form verifying all work has been done and payment has been received from the homeowner. The homeowner will forward the completed rebate form along with proof of invoice payments to contractors used for the irrigation improvements to the IIABC for a rebate. 1

Water Wise Landscape Material Program The landscape water efficiency component of the program will provide a $250 rebate on water wise landscape material or soil amendments providing that $500 or more is spent by the homeowner. Replacing turf with water wise plants in front lawns is eligible for a rebate. Residents must apply for the landscape rebate from the IIABC prior to starting the project. This is required to ensure that the Pilot Project does not exceed the budgeted amount. An application form is attached in Schedule A. A signature from the nursery is required at point of sale on the rebate form indicating that the plant materials are water wise species. A list of water wise plants can be found here: http://www.ourwatermatters.ca/files/file/amwss_landscape_guide.pdf If additional topsoil is being purchased and installed the minimum thickness for turf s is 200 mm. For gardens and bed s the minimum depth must be 400 mm. The homeowner will forward the completed rebate form along with proof of invoice payment for the plant material and / or topsoil to the IIABC for a rebate.
