SkySight: New Capabilities to Accelerate Your Journey to the Cloud
There is no longer any question about the business value of the cloud model. The new question is how to expedite the transition from strategy to execution. What is the roadmap? What is the methodology? How do you re-platform application workloads to the cloud without increasing risk or complexity, without compromising data security, and without limiting future options? In addressing these issues, many organizations are adopting Microsoft Azure, the enterprise-proven hybrid cloud platform. And because cloud strategies typically require services on both public and private cloud platforms, Capgemini s SkySight platform can provide a unique advantage. SkySight delivers the optimal workload allocation to public, private, and hybrid cloud services safely and in control. Our end-to-end process embodies compliance and security, and deploys best-in-class practices and platforms. First introduced in 2013, SkySight has quickly evolved into a robust infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offering that simplifies the migration of enterprise workloads to the cloud. Today, SkySight makes it possible to provision infrastructure in minutes rather than weeks or months; manage and govern services from a single, unified, self-service portal; and operate a private cloud model with the same management tools as Microsoft Azure. Co-developed with Microsoft, SkySight is built on a foundation of Azure and runs on pre-integrated, pre-optimized hardware. Capgemini is currently the only global Microsoft partner offering a production-ready version of Microsoft s Cloud Platform System, giving you immediate access to these capabilities and an immediate advantage. Simply put, if your vision is to adopt Microsoft Azure as part of your cloud strategy, SkySight is the ideal implementation route. SkySight gives you access to: An Azure-like public cloud experience in a private cloud model A single, unified platform with cyber security and regulatory compliance built in, so you can maintain sensitive data in an on-premises environment An end-to-end process for re-platforming to the cloud, including decommissioning, stakeholder management, operating model implementation, and benefits tracking An ecosystem approach, giving you the ability to move rapidly to pubic and hybrid cloud provisioning by deploying technologies and solutions from multiple vendors The combined cloud expertise of two industry leaders: Capgemini and Microsoft Wherever you are on your journey to the cloud, SkySight enables you to begin implementation with confidence. 2
SkySight the way we do it Current Capabilities: A Closer Look The SkySight platform provides IaaS provisioned from Capgemini-owned hardware, deployed either in your data center or ours. The offering provides initial set-up, provisioning support, and ongoing support in the form of managed infrastructure services for the virtualized resources provided. The next sections describe the core capabilities of today s SkySight solution. Azure-based cloud in a box SkySight combines Dell hardware and Microsoft s Windows Azure Pack (WAP) Systems Center, Hyper V, and SQL Server into a pre-integrated bundle. It gives you access to predeployed infrastructure such as switches, load balancers, storage and compute resources, and is pre-configured per best practices to comply with your specific requirements and policies. A key advantage of SkySight is that it gives you an Azurelike experience, right now. Azure is ranked by Gartner as an industry leader for IaaS. It is an extremely flexible platform that enables you to: Provision Windows and Linux Virtual Machines and applications in minutes Scale up or down to match demand, and pay on an allocation basis Support any OS, language, tool, and framework from Windows to Linux, SQL Server to Oracle, C# to Java, so you can build applications and services that work with every device Use the same virtual machines and management tools in Azure that you use on-premises Authorize SkySight resources with the existing on-premises directory for authentication and single-sign-on, allowing for single-sign-on across Azure, Office 365 and hundreds of popular software-as-a-service applications (multi-factor authentication options still apply when required by the security policy of your company) Resource pools With SkySight you subscribe to a specific resource pool, which can be increased or reduced as needed. The available resource pools may include: Virtual machines (VMs): Virtual machines are instantiated from templates and/or disks. VM templates are used to instantiate simple standalone VMs, allowing you to quickly configure components for your specific workload. Virtual disks can also be used to specify the hardware profile (allocated CPUs, memory, disks, networks). Virtual networks: SkySight enables you to create virtual networks through the SkySight self-service portal. VMs can be attached to these networks, which are completely isolated within the pool and from the external world. You can choose your own IP ranges for the network and decide whether the network will remain private, or configure external connectivity. Network connectivity: External network connectivity can be configured when creating the network, or later as a change to the existing network. Backup: The SkySight IaaS Backup option provides backup services for VMs in an IaaS Basic resource pool subscription. All current and future VMs are backed up according to a standard schedule. The term of the backups is customizable. SkySight self-service user portal SkySight provides a single, simple portal for ordering and managing IaaS. The SkySight user portal provides centralized provisioning of cloud services and makes it easy to order private cloud IaaS for specific workloads. Its policy engine governs the what, where, and how of service provisioning, and a provisioning engine triggers the provisioning of services via standard APIs. Authorized users simply provide the name and delivery location of the service they wish to order and receive a cost code for the selected service. They can also request a specific start and end date for the service request. The user can even control which users have access to the service, secure approvals, report incidents and feedback, and check on incident resolution status quickly and easily. Performance management, incident management, and general user support is provided as a consolidated service. 333
Templates or cookbooks for specific workloads Capgemini continues to create a variety of pre-defined templates or cookbooks so that you can rapidly deploy the right environment for a given workload and run it, avoiding the need to build solutions from scratch over and over again. For example, SkySight can give clients access to Capgemini 4 OneShare, which leverages Azure to manage cloud-based application development and test environments. SkySight can also give you the ability to run an entire business process (BPO) as a stack, so you can provision the needed resource pool and run it quickly.
SkySight the way we do it Available Now, Future Ready While SkySight is an excellent solution for immediate IT challenges such as accelerating cloud adoption, streamlining infrastructure provisioning for key workloads, and cutting CapEx, it also opens the door to many additional capabilities. These opportunities fall into four broad categories: Accelerate your journey to the hybrid cloud In re-platforming workloads for the cloud, you will ultimately face the choice of public, private, and hybrid models.
