Grade: 10 Unit: European Handball Date: November 24, 2008 A10 A100 C10- C10-5 -Students will apply knowledge of open spaces using clone dodgeball and handball. -Students will demonstrate fair play and team work in clone dodgeball, skittles, and handball. -Students will apply throwing objects at targets to skittles and handball Clone Dodgeball (15 minutes total including debriefs) Progression 1: 2 Students start out as it with a rhino ball and pinnies, the court is 20ft by 10ft with pylons. When a student is hit or steps out of bounds they become it and put on a pinnie. Players can only pivot with ball and cannot throw it at opponent, they must touch player and cannot move with ball. No interference of ball is allowed. Throws must be made from within court. When two students are left without pinnies round is over. Progression 2: Players can intercept ball, but it must be caught to be an interception and then that side tries to get the other out. Balls cannot be stripped from hands. Progression : 2 teams of equal size, 1 with pinnies and 1 without. When a player is tagged or hit they join other team. Balls can now be thrown at players below the waist. Throw practice (5 minutes) Students will line up in two rows 15ft apart across from a partner. They will throw rhino ball lob passes to partner, then throws at partner, then times whipping it floor to bounce to partner, times whipping it at partner. Debrief (2 minutes each round) -After 1 round teacher facilitates debrief by asking, what strategies could be used to get people out quicker. -After 2 nd round teacher asks, Does this game work when a player cheats? -Progressions will be used based on the level of skill judged by the teacher Skittles (15 minutes total) - Play 1 to 2 games (depending on time) of dodgeball rules on volleyball courts. 4 pylons will be placed 2 ft behind each teams back line. When all the cones on one side are knocked over the other side wins. Players cannot stand behind back line to block balls; they can only go out of court to retrieve balls. -Teams will be picked by assigning numbers (1 minute) -Rules will be explained (1 minute) Progression 1: When a player is down any team mate can drag them back to the back line to get back up. Progression 2: 2 games will occur at the same time and only the doctor can pull players to the back line. When the doctor is down no one can be pulled back. Progression : No resurrection, game is won when either all pylons are down or all players are down. Shots have to be below the waist. rules of games. Handball game (20 minutes) -game is played on basketball court with two teams. Teams based on skittles games. Players score by throwing ball into hockey net placed below the hoop. A turnover and no goal will occur if: players take more than steps with ball, they take longer than 5 seconds to pass ball, less than passes occurred before shot. A ball on the ground is not a turnover. All shots must be taken outside the point line. Progression 1: Only defending players are allowed inside the point line on only to retrieve the ball, no blocking within point line allowed. Progression 2: Defending players are allowed inside the point line to block shots but cannot be within 5 feet of the goal. Progression : players may jump from behind the point line and throw before they touch the ground. Defenders cannot physically block jumping player. Closure (5 minutes) Debriefing on what skills were learned in class -Progressions will be used based on the level of skill judged by the teacher Teacher facilitates debrief with the questions; What skills are needed for today s games and What are other sports these skills could be used in? Possession game (15 minutes including debrief) - teams picked by rock paper scissors challenge, winners on 1 team (1 minute) - rules (1 minute) -2 teams on 1 side of volleyball court, 1 team wins when it gets 5 consecutive passes without turnover. Turnover includes ball touching the ground. Progression 1: steps allowed and have 5 seconds to pass Progression 2: Players cannot run with ball, has seconds to pass ball and cannot pass right back to same player who tossed it to them Progression : 10 consecutive passes to win Debrief (2 minutes) - Teacher facilitates debrief by asking, What strategies could be used to reach goal. Throw Game (10 minutes) Students will line up in two rows 15ft apart across from a partner from two sides of the gym. It is a relay tossing race that starts on the edges of the gym. Each player passes the ball across down the line like a cranes lattice. In the middle there will be a bucket and the first team to get it in the middle wins. Round two is 25 ft across and round three is 40ft across. 4 Stations (21 minutes) -Rules (1 minute) Jump bowling -6 pylons (like 5 pin) at wall by volleyball court. Players get steps to jump from point line. Get the goalie -Handball net with goalie in handball net, same rules as jump bowling 2 high jump mats are laid out at opposite ends of volleyball court, pylon is placed 5 feet b Corners -small hoops in handball net. Same rules as others. points for top hoops, 2 for low hoops and 1 for in net. Same rules as others. Angles -player runs and gets ball then jump throws from angle. First on right then left. Closure Handball (20 minutes) -rules (1 minute) -Same 2 teams as before, play handball on basketball court with goalies present defending hockey nets. Defenders allowed in point line. Warm Up By Leadership Student (15 minutes) Students will line up in two rows 15ft apart across from a partner. They will throw rhino ball lob passes to partner, then throws at partner, then times whipping it floor to bounce to partner, times whipping it at partner European handball (45 minutes) -rules (1 minute) -2 teams Players have seconds to throw the ball; a goalie is present, and a handball net. Only goalie in goal line. No pass minimum. Class time: 1 hr 10 minutes Debrief (2 minutes) -After teacher facilitates debrief by asks both defenders and attackers, What strategies could be used for next time.
