GETTING STARTED Thank you for purchasing Hunter Douglas Cadence Soft Vertical Blinds. With proper installation, operation, and care, your new blind will provide years of beauty and performance. Please thoroughly review this instruction booklet and enclosed packing list before beginning the installation. Remove headrail, louvers, and DualFold valance from the package. Do not discard any of the packaging material until the blind operates to your satisfaction. Contents of your hardware package may vary depending upon whether the headrail is mounted inside or outside the window frame. Mounting Types and Window Terminology If the installation brackets are mounted correctly, the rest of the installation process follows very easily. To prepare for this important fi rst step, review the mounting types and basic window terminology illustrated below. Molding Head Jamb Jamb Jamb Collectively, the sill and jambs are called the window casement. Sill Inside Mount The blind fits within window opening. Outside Mount The blind mounts outside window opening. Installation Components Needed Check the packaging to be sure you have all the components needed to install your blind. IMPORTANT: For outside mount valance installations, the short valance hanger, see Optional Components on page 4, count will be the same as the headrail installation brackets. Check that the cord/wand will traverse the louver hooks. Attach Louvers Use the safety wand on the wand assembly (or the chains on a cord and chain control system) to rotate the louver hooks so the slot between the long and the short prong of the carriers are facing you. Louver Hook Push the louver into the hooks until it snaps into place. 12

INSTALLATION Attach the Vertical Cord Tensioner Before doing anything, you must fi rst slide the vertical cord tensioner to the bottom of the cord loop. To release the cord tensioner, pull the mounting base down, away from the tensioner body. Slide the cord tensioner down to the bottom of the cord loop. Install the blind and use the instructions in the Vertical Cord Tensioner Kit to secure the cord tensioner to the window casement. Tensioner Body Mounting Base WARNING: It is imperative that the cord tensioner be properly secured to the wall or window frame to reduce children s access to the cord loop. Young children can strangle in cord loops. They can also wrap cords around their necks and strangle. CAUTION: The blind will not operate properly unless the cord tensioner(s) is secured. A Vertical Cord Tensioner Installation Kit has been included with your blind. Follow the instructions in the kit to correctly secure the cord tensioner(s). 13

INSTALLATION Cord Adjustment NOTE: Cord length and/or tension cannot be adjusted for PermaTilt Wand Control System. It is set in the factory to help ensure that the product meets cord safety standard. To Reduce Cord Length on a Side Stack Blind Cord and Chain Only Release the tension on the cord with the cord tensioner; see Attach the Vertical Cord Tensioner on page 13. Place the blind in the open position. Locate the cord knot in the front of the lead carrier. Loosen the adjusting screw until the cord moves. Pull the cord to the desired length. Tie a double knot. Tighten the adjusting screw. Reset the cord tension with the cord tensioner. Test for proper cord tension. Cut the excess cord. To Reduce Cord Length on Split Stack Blinds Release the tension on the cord with the cord tensioner; see Attach the Vertical Cord Tensioner on page 13. Center Draw Place the blind in the closed position. Carriers Closed Position Locate the cord ends in the front of the lead carrier. Loosen the adjusting screw. Select the cord knot that adjusts the cord length only; if carrier movement is observed, select the other cord. 14 CAUTION: Cutting the wrong cord will cause irreparable damage. Pull the cord to the desired length. Tie a double knot. Tighten the adjusting screw. Reset the tension with the cord tensioner. Test for proper cord tension. Cut the excess cord. Side Draw Carriers in Open Position Screw and Cord Knot Screw

Installation Outside Mount Installations Only INSTALLATION After the headrail is installed, determine if the returns reach the back wall. If they do not, you will have to use the leveling brackets. Place one at each end of the valance. Make sure that the headrail assembly is pulled out all the way and remains there while installing the valance. Hold the valance assembly up to the headrail. Push the edge of the dust cover into the short valance clips. Push the entire valance assembly all the way back toward the wall. The returns should meet the wall (if not, install leveling brackets on both ends just inside the returns). If pushing in the valance assembly all the way causes the valance to bow, trim the returns using scissors. Short Clip Leveling Brackets DualFold 15
