This program provides city-owned housing units to qualified individuals at city-owned properties all over Tucson for approximately 30 percent of the individual s income. Applicants can not choose the location. Income limits are $2,115/month for one person and $2,420/month for two. There is currently a waiting list and new applications are not being accepted. Section 42 Rental Homes Section 42 is part of the U.S. tax code. It provides tax credits to investors who provide affordable housing to people with fixed or lower incomes. Rent in a Section 42 unit is capped at a fixed amount. Income limits are $2,100/month for one and $2,400/month for two. There are also minimum income restrictions. Sunnyside Pointe Villas 730 E. Each home has a small backyard and pets are encouraged. No smoking is allowed except 25 feet or more from all entryways. Water, sewer and trash are included with rent. A $100 fee is required in order to hold a home until an occupancy becomes available. Once a vacancy occurs, the $100 will be applied toward the security deposit. Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) This is a federal housing assistance program for low-income individuals and the disabled. Qualified low-income tenants pay approximately 30 percent of their income to private landlords and the federal government pays the difference between the tenant s rent and the market rate for the rented unit. Landlords must meet Section 8 contract specifications. Section 8 is currently not taking applications. South Tucson Housing Authority The City of South Tucson operates its own Section 8 and Housing Choice Voucher programs. For information on availability call (520) 623-8481. A furnished room, three balanced meals daily, home-like lounge and dining room, housekeeping services, laundry facilities, and community outreach programs are provided. Applications are accepted from individuals or agencies. Sliding scale fees are based on ability to pay. Income limits are $25,380 for one person and $29,040 for two. Moderate Rehabilitation (Mod Rehab) HUD provides rent subsidy payments to private and non-profit property owners for rental units rehabilitated under this program.
