Felt Story Instructions Page 1 of 12 How to Assemble Your Own Felt Stories In this tutorial we will show you three different methods for making colorful felt story pieces. Also, because storage of resources is always a bit tricky, we will give instructions on how to make a file folder to store and organize your story pieces. You will be surprised at how simple and helpful this can be. PART 1 MAKING THE STORY PIECES I. The Coloring Method 1. You will need the following materials: @ Pellon interfacing 1 (enough to cover four sheets of paper) @ scissors @ good quality permanent markers or crayons 2 BLACK & WHITE TEMPLATES @ 1 Pellon interfacing is a stiff textile used in sewing to make certain parts of a garment stiffer. You should be able to purchase it in any fabric store. It s also readily available at online fabric and sewing stores. 2 You can find Felt Story TEMPLATES at www.teachchildrenesl.com OR you can use any line drawing or clipart to make this type of felt story pieces.
Felt Story Instructions Page 2 of 12 2. Print the templates on regular sheets of paper. 3. Place the sheet of Pellon interfacing on top of your template. You will notice that although the interfacing is thick, you can still see through it quite easily. 4. With a black permanent marker, trace each one of your story pieces onto the Pellon interfacing.
Felt Story Instructions Page 3 of 12 5. Use permanent markers or crayons to color the story pieces on the Pellon interfacing. 6. Cut out each piece, making sure you leave a small border around it. 7. These Pellon interfacing pieces will easily stick to the felt board. The pieces are easy to remove from the felt board and will not damage it.

You will need the following materials: @ felt fabric (about enough to cover four sheets of paper, any color will do) @ scissors @ glue @ clear shelf lining plastic that you can buy at any discount store or office supplies center 1 @ COLOR TEMPLATES 2. Print the templates on regular paper or cardstock. 1 You can find Felt Story TEMPLATES at www.teachchildrenesl.com OR you can use any drawing, photo or clipart to make this type of felt story pieces.

Laminate each sheet of paper on the printed side only. a) Cut the laminating paper to the same size as the template sheet. b) Separate the laminating paper from its backing. c) Place the sticky part on top of the template sheet. d) Smooth out wrinkles by sliding your hand across the sheet.

Gather the following materials: @ scissors four sheets of cardstock paper (thick printable paper) @ @ clear shelf lining plastic that you can buy at any discount store or office supplies center @ Velcro (you can also use coarse sandpaper OR double sided tape) 1 @ COLOR TEMPLATES 2. Felt Story Instructions Page 8 of 12 3. Laminate each printed sheet of paper on both sides with shelving paper. This is a bit tricky, so take your time and get somebody to assist you. 4. Cut out the pieces, making sure you leave a small border around them. 5. Glue a small piece of Velcro to the back of each piece, making sure that you only use the hook side of the Velcro.

Felt Story Instructions Page 10 of 12 PART 2 MAKING THE STORAGE FILE This storage file is optional, but a great way to keep everything tidy, organized and easy to access. @ @ To make the storage file, you will need the following supplies: a regular file folder 1 templates for the file folder @ Story 1 @ scissors 1 envelope (big enough to hold the story pieces) @ @ glue @ finished felt story pieces 1. Print out the story and the templates for the file folder. Cut out the title templates and the story. 1 On the last pages of the Felt Story TEMPLATES PDF, you will find templates for the file folder and the story to use to make this storage file.

Felt Story Instructions Page 12 of 12 3. Glue the front of the envelope to the file folder. 4. Store your felt story pieces in the envelope. 5. Whenever you need to use your felt story, just open the folder to remove the pieces from the envelope, and read the story. NOTE: For more durability, you can laminate the entire file folder before attaching the envelope.
