Understanding you Since our foundation as a partnership in 1945, we have understood the need for stability when it comes to gaining trust from our clients. With only four senior partners prior to incorporation in 2006, stability is engrained in our culture and something we see as a key attribute when looking to navigate the challenges that today s investors encounter. Today, we benefi t by being owned by Ackermans & van Haaren with its signifi cant market capitalisation and stockmarket listing providing fi nancial stability, combined with the immediate ownership by Delen Investments, allowing us to manage the business with a long term investment horizon. This longer term view matches that of many of our clients, whilst providing the fi nancial security and transparency required in today s fi nancially complex world. Discretionary Portfolio Management We focus on Discretionary Portfolio Management. This service entails the establishment of a core set of investment objectives and parameters and provides your dedicated investment manager with discretion to manage your portfolio to endeavour to meet these pre-specifi ed goals. Communication is central to a successful relationship and although we have discretion to manage the portfolio we will keep you appraised about your investments via a means that suits you. A discretionary service is suitable for investors who may not have the time and/or experience to manage a portfolio on a day to day basis. Pensions Whether your existing pension is within an employer-sponsored scheme, a self-directed scheme such as a SIPP (Self-Invested Pension Plan) or a SSAS (Small Self Administered Scheme), our discretionary service could be appropriate for your pension scheme. Individual Savings Accounts Tax wrappers such as ISAs are important investment vehicles designed to encourage longer term saving. As a regulated ISA manager we can ensure your portfolio makes full use of any tax free allowance you may have available via an ISA. Trusts Trusts, in their various forms, are a core component of inheritance and tax planning when looking to secure assets for future generations. We have experience of managing portfolios held under trust and regularly work with third party administrators and specialists who might administer such schemes. Bonds and other tax wrappers As for trusts, our discretionary management service can also be appropriate for bonds that might be used as tax wrappers for certain investment portfolios. Advisory Services The foundations of our business are firmly rooted in stockbroking and advisory portfolio management where we provided advice for clients to act upon if they choose. Today, we still offer some advisory services for those clients who require it. Charities Our discretionary service appeals to many charities thanks to our focus on our clients. Charities and their trustees often place the level of service they receive above all else. Our long term experience in managing charity investments, coupled with our investment expertise, has seen us become a growing force across the charity investment world. Intermediaries and Professional Advisers As well as managing investment portfolios for private clients, we work closely with their professional advisers, be that their lawyer, accountant or financial adviser. Diversifying one s investments can be a sensible approach to reducing investment risk. This can be problematic for smaller portfolios such as those for your grandchildren or in family trusts or a JISA. Thanks to the longevity of our client relationships we often manage investment portfolios on behalf of multiple generations of the same family. To assist our clients in the management of these family investments, we have developed a range of unitised portfolios that are managed collectively with three distinct investment objectives, which can act as a suitable alternative to our core discretionary service. Coleman Street Investments The Coleman Street Investments (CSI) service consists of three unitised portfolios that are transparent in their reporting and follow a disciplined investment process, within a costeffective collective investment scheme structure. By investing through our CSI service, you achieve diversifi cation, which helps reduce volatility regardless of your investment portfolio size. You will benefi t from a comprehensive and disciplined investment process, delivered in a cost-effective manner. Investment ideas Our portfolio management services are built primarily around a selection of individual stocks, bonds and funds designed to meet a client s individual investment requirements. At JM Finn & Co our investment philosophy has been shaped by our clients, leading us to adopt a long term, conservative attitude to investing for many of them. Many of our clients see long term capital preservation as an important investment objective, with the aspiration that investment in stock markets could provide returns in excess of bank rates and/or inflation but in the knowledge that returns cannot be guaranteed in an uncertain world. This more conservative approach typically sees us seeking returns over multiple market cycles as opposed to targeting quick gains. Whilst clients may typically have similar objectives for their investment portfolio, many have specific circumstances which require a tailored approach. We set about managing client portfolios by allowing individual investment managers the freedom to construct portfolios that meet their clients investment needs, as opposed to providing centralised model portfolios which investment managers must follow. This flexibility ensures our actions are aligned with client expectations. The process will vary depending upon the investment manager and the clients circumstances but will typically start by establishing an asset allocation in response to the brief, which is then populated by appropriate equity, bond and fund holdings. We work hard to generate relationships with many of the companies in which we invest, as we believe that third party research can be usefully supplemented by meeting the companies in which we invest your assets. Each year we meet with an extensive range of over 200 well established UK PLCs of which many will likely be FTSE-100 companies. This approach not only allows us to appraise the individual company but also gives an invaluable insight into the industry, sector and wider economic picture. Security of assets At JM Finn & Co we work hard to ensure our systems incorporate the latest controls and our stringent processes and procedures about fund withdrawals, for example, are in place to protect your assets. As part of our discretionary service we offer a comprehensive custody service, which allows for both streamlined administration and ensures your assets are ring-fenced from JM Finn & Co s balance sheet. Communication A personal service begins with clear, concise and regular communication. We start all relationships by establishing goals and encourage regular ongoing correspondence via whatever means is most suitable. We encourage annual face-to-face meetings where we can assess your investment portfolio in light of the specified goals and any potential changes in circumstances. Our online capabilities, which now include an app to view client portfolios 24/7, are central to communicating effectively with clients who wish to retain a personal relationship but also wish to make use of digital enhancements in our services.
