Warm up s Variations of Tig 5 to 7 yrs Toilet tig Players caught stand with arm out for free players to flush and free. Tunnel tig - Players caught stand with legs apart for players to crawl under and free. (Players are safe if underneath legs.) Tails Use bibs to tuck into back and create tail. Players try and grab as many tails as possible. After grabbing a tail it should be immediately placed behind back. Dodge Ball Catchers try to hit players below knee height. (Please ensure foam ball is used.) Windows - Control Yellows players take the ball and form a circle. Red players without a ball position themselves inside the circle. Yellow players with the ball feed pass from hands/feet to red player who returns pass to feeder. After passing back to feeder heels, knees, side steps, squats, headers, turns etc can be encorporated inside the cirlce before receiving the next pass. (Can be used as drill as well for dribbling and control) Passing And Moving Ball is always passed from cone 1 to 2. Players are static and on toes at cone 1. All players must control ball before passing to begin. Players at cone 1 are changed every 30/45 seconds. Movement A: After controlling ball and passing back to static player at cone 1 players swap groups at cones 2 following line A. Heels up and knees up can be incorporated. Movement B: After controlling ball and passing back to static player at cone 1 players perform backwards run around cone 3 and back to back of group. Movement C: After controlling ball and passing back to static player at cone 1 players side step to opposite group at cone 2 following line C. Movement D: After controlling ball and passing back to static player at cone 1 players finish with sprint along line A again.

Warm Ups Control Players jog around cones 2 to then receive ball at cones 1. Heels, knees, side stepping, change of pace, squats at cone 2 etc can be incorporated. After controlling ball with specified area of body player A swaps with player B who then moves around next cone 2 and same exercise is carried out. Dribbling Players dribble freely in a defined area. Warm up movements can be incorporated by leaving ball stationary on instruction of coach and jogging into middle zone.

Drills - Dribbling Follow my leader Follow the Leader - In pairs, with a ball between 2, players are encouraged to dribble freely throughout the defined area. At first reds take possession, with every possession 'change' dictated by the coach. Coaching Points: Small touches and ball close to feet. Lift head as much as possible. Supports: Slow down, use sole of foot or hand to regain control of ball before dribbling again. Extensions: Speed up, weaker foot, inside of both feet, soles only. Progression could be to have player without ball in front of player with ball.(player in front would need to go slower as it will be harder for player on ball as he is being dictated the direction instead of choosing themselves.) (Can be used as warm up with warm up movements involved) In 2 s In two s one player static with legs open, other player dribbling. On approach to any static player different turns can be encorporated. On approach to any static player ball is rolled through static players legs and collected on other side. On approach to any static player ball is rolled through static players legs and static player turns and collect whilst dribbling player becomes static player. Coaching Points: Small touches and ball close to feet. Lift head as much as possible. Supports: Slow down, use sole of foot or hand to regain control of ball before dribbling again. Extensions: Speed up, weaker foot, inside of both feet, soles only. Progression: 1 minute to dribble through as many gates as possible.

Dribbling Drill Players dribble from cone 1 to cone 3, back to cone 2 and up to cone 4. This is repeated at the same time from the opposite end. Different turns can be dictated at each cone by the coach. Coaching Points: Small touches and ball close to feet. Lift head as much as possible. Supports: Slow down, use sole of foot or hand to regain control of ball before dribbling again. Extensions: Speed up, weaker foot, inside of both feet, soles only. Progression: A relay race could be encorporated. Coerver Box 1. 4 players working simultaneously in and out to middle cone. 1 player is nominated captain and gives the shout to go when everyone is back at cone with ball under control. Different turns can be instructed by the coach. Coaching Points: Small touches and ball close to feet. Lift head as much as possible. Supports: Slow down, use sole of foot or hand to regain control of ball before dribbling again. Extensions: Speed up, weaker foot, inside of both feet, soles only. 2. Progression is to dribble into middle cone and back out to starting cone, dribble around back of cone and progress up side clockwise to next cone. Direction could be changed to anti clockwise. Players could dribble two lengths of the square. Figure of 8 1.Players dribble round cone clockwise using outside of right foot. 2.Players dribble round cone anti clockwise using inside of right foot. 3.Players dribble round cone clockwise using inside of left foot. 4.Players dribble round cone anti clockwise using outside of left foot. Coaching Points: Small touches and ball close to feet. Lift head as much as possible. Supports: Slow down, use sole of foot or hand to regain control of ball before dribbling again. Extensions: Speed up, weaker foot, inside of both feet, soles only. 5.Progression: Figure of 8. Race to see who can complete figure of 8 5 times.

Box Routine 1.Players dribble round box using both inside and outside of feet around the cones. Coach can shout change of direction during drill. 2.As above in different direction. Coaching Points: Small touches and ball close to feet. Lift head as much as possible. Supports: Slow down, use sole of foot or hand to regain control of ball before dribbling again. Extensions: Speed up, weaker foot, inside of both feet, soles only. 3.Progression: One man becomes chaser without ball. Add additional cone or stagger middle cones. Progression: Relay race. Fake Dribble ball towards partner, fake to left or right, which is dictated by coach. Complete change of direction at opposite end, continue exercise. Ensure players have opportunity to work both right and left. A turn could also be incorporated in middle. Coaching Points: Small touches and ball close to feet. Lift head as much as possible. Use inside and outside of feet. Exaggerate fake/dip of shoulder. Supports: Slow down., bring pair closer together. Extensions: Speed up, weaker foot only on dribble. Progression:??????????????

Dribbling Routine Create a circle with markers, 2 players on each marker, players dribble ball in to the centre area and go round several markers/flags/poles. Upon leaving the centre area the player plays a short pass to his partner. While the partner is waiting he/she is jogging on spot awaiting pass from partner. Coaching Points: Small touches and ball close to feet. Lift head as much as possible. Use inside and outside of feet. Supports: Slow down, use sole of foot or hand to regain control of ball before dribbling again. Extensions: Speed up, weaker foot only, inside of both feet, soles only. Progression: After dribbling through middle cones player on ball must find another free player on side. (this encourages to lift head more rather than just going back to starting partner)

Drills - Control Triangle Several triangles are set up with 2 players and 1 ball per triangle. Player with ball passes through cones. Player receiving ball must control ball to either left or right cone and then pass ball back through other cones. Other player receiving pass does the same. Coaching Points Adjust feet accordingly and take a soft touch on the ball. Support Take as many touches as possible. Extension Weaker foot control with outside of the foot. Progression Up and down the leagues. Yellow player completes the process. Coaching Points Keep eye on the ball, adjust feet accordingly. Soft touch on the ball forward if possible. Support Many touches as possible. Extension Control ball with the outside of the weaker foot. Progression Chipped ball to control.

Hit The Cone Yellow player passes ball to red player who must control the ball trying to hit the cone with two touches.(1 st touch?) Coaching Points Keep eye on the ball. Adjust feet accordingly, soft touch on the ball. Support (2/3 Touches?) As many touches as possible. Extension Bouncing ball two touches only. (weaker foot, outside foot??) Progression Chipped pass towards thigh or chest no bounce. (1 st to 10 points?) 2 Boxes 2 boxes are set up with 4 different coloured cones within corners of each box. Player then collects ball and dribbles again before next shot takes place. Coach can dictate which player shoots and into what goal. Coaching Points Last touch out of feet. Hit target. Lean over ball. Area of foot to strike ball(depending on distance from goal) Support Dribble nearer goal. Extension Outside of foot, weaker foot, hit corner of goal. Progression Drill can be built up to a certain colour all shooting at same time. Players can not shoot into same goal as team mate and must change direction and drive towards a different goal. Players should be encouraged to be aware by lifting head.

Drills Heading and Goalkeeping

Fun Games King Of The Ring Players with ball each dribble ball in box. Last player to be in box with ball at feet is King of the ring. Players are allowed to kick other players ball out but only as long as they have their own ball close to their feet. Once players are out of square they sit at side until winner (Ensure you give 30-45 sec for players to bring ball back into the square before going live, this allows less abled players a second chance) Progression: 2 boxes can be introduced to allow players out of square to restart. Game becomes continuous. Bib players up to form team game where reds and trying to get yellows out and vice versa. Guard the Centre Circle One team defends the centre circle whilst the other 2 teams try to dribble the ball in. Defenders are not allowed in the circle. Once you are tackled you must retrieve another ball from the goal. The game should start with more dribbling than defending to ensure success. The first team to get all their balls in the circle wins. Progression: Increase defenders to challenge dribbling.

Small Sided Games Small sided dribbling games. 1. Players defend 2 boxes (cones) and attack the opposite 2 boxes. Goal is scored by dribbling ball into box and stopping ball dead by tramping on it. Encourage width and direct dribbling at opponent if 1 on 1. 2. Players defend 1 zone (flags)and attack the opposite zone. Goal is scored by dribbling ball into zone and stopping ball dead by tramping on it. Encourage width and direct dribbling at opponent if 1 on 1.
