Elastosil SiliconE RUBBER: NATURALLY VERSATILE 2
SILICONE ELASTOMERS AND TheIR Special properties Silicone rubber differs from other elastomers in its unparalleled property range. Of particular interest are the characteristics resulting not from additives or surface treatment, but from the polymer and filler structure. These are inherent properties of WACKER s rubber. ELASTOSIL silicone rubber withstands continuous high temperatures and dynamic stress, and thus represents the perfect solution for turbocharger hoses All ELASTOSIL silicone rubber grades have good mechanical properties. Specialty grades have very high tear resistance, making them ideal for bottle nipples and pacifiers ELASTOSIL, and SILMIX are registered trademarks of Wacker Chemie AG. Typical Properties ELASTOSIL silicone rubber is extremely resistant to high and low temperatures (-50 C to +250 C; specialty grades: -110 C to +300 C) with only slight changes in physical properties between -50 C and +180 C. The rubber s other typical properties include its resistance to chemicals and environmental influences, its lack of odor and taste (many grades conform to BfR and FDA regulations), its water-repellent surface, and its high transparency and good processability. Many other properties can be modified with additives. At a Glance Outstanding low-temperature flexibility and high-temperature resistance Excellent compression set High resistance to chemicals and environmental influences Water-repellent surface High transparency; can be pigmented as desired Good mechanical properties Good flame resistance; non-toxic combustion products in the case of fire Odorless and tasteless Can be easily processed Can be adjusted electrically from insulating to semiconducting High radiation resistance 3
SOLID SILICONE RUBBER ELASTOSIL R And ELASTOSIL R plus Solid silicone rubber bar (standard supply form) Extrusion of ELASTOSIL solid silicone rubber into tubing WACKER offers two product ranges based on solid silicone rubber: A line of peroxide-curing grades marketed as ELASTOSIL R and a line of addition-curing (platinum-catalyzed) grades marketed as ELASTOSIL R plus. You can choose between our ready-to-use blends or our basic rubber. Our product offering is rounded out by crosslinkers, stabilizers, colorants and other additives. Supply Forms The standard delivery form is as bars measuring 90 x 100 mm (crosssection), which are wrapped in PE film and shipped in cartons. For special requirements, we also offer our readyto-use blends in the form of strips, round-cords, pellets and profile strips. Processing ELASTOSIL solid silicone rubber can be processed using the standard methods, e. g. extrusion, molding (injection, transfer or compression molding) and calendering. Customized Compounds Under our SILMIX trademark, we develop, compound and produce customized, ready-to-use blends for you at our sites around the world always maintaining our high WACKER quality standards. 4
LIQUID silicone rubber ELASTOSIL LR ELASTOSIL liquid silicone rubber is supplied in drums (A and B components) Demolding an injection-molded sheet from the mold At WACKER, we market liquid silicone rubber grades as ELASTOSIL LR (LR = Liquid Rubber). These twocomponent, addition-curing (platinumcatalyzed), pumpable elastomers can be injection molded and cured at high temperatures and very short cycle times. Supply Forms The A 1 and B 2 components are delivered in 20-kg or 200-kg containers: 20-kg pails with a PE inliner (inside ø 280 mm) 200-kg drums with a PE inliner (inside ø 571.5 mm) Processing ELASTOSIL LR liquid silicone rubber is processed by injection molding, which allows for complex part geometries, precise dimensions and fully automatic production, without the need for secondary finishing. Multicomponent Parts You can use our self-adhesive grades to produce multicomponent parts by 2K injection molding, e.g. hard-soft or softsoft combinations (color combinations or combinations of grades with different hardnesses). Colors Additionally, we supply colors whose viscosity matches that of our silicone rubber grades. 1 Contains platinum catalyst 2 Contains crosslinker 5

technical SUPPORT AND ServiceS Applications Labs For technical support, our application chemists work closely with our customers, dealing with specific questions from the field. We will find the optimum product for your specific requirements and support your product development from material selection through to industrial production worldwide. Certain laboratories deal with key issues from specific industrial sectors (such as medical and automotive applications and cables). They have there by built up special expertise in these application fields. We offer you technical support at various levels to ensure the success of our products at every stage in your process chain. Technical Centers We maintain technical centers in all key regions to offer you wide-ranging support whether with adjusting formulations to individual requirements, or with property testing of rubber compounds and cured material, or with analytical techniques and lab tests according to international and local standards and regulations. Processing tests are also possible. At our pilot plant in Burghausen, for example, facilities include production systems (extrusion and injection molding) for HTV and LSR silicone rubber, and 2K combinations. Here, we subject our ELASTOSIL product series to practical tests. At the same time, we would be glad to put our pilot plant and all the necessary tools at your disposal. Or we work at your premises on your production equipment. WACKER E-Solutions Ranging from electronic invoicing and expedited order processing (via our web platform or Hub2Hub), to vendor managed inventory, WACKER e-solutions are exactly tailored to the size of your company, your profile and the wishes of each contact saving you time and work, and reducing error sources. Moreover, you can remain in close touch with our experts in R&D, supply chain management, sales support and technical customer service. 14
