(5) DALI Driver Configurator User Guide IC COLOUR CONTROL Intelligent Colour (ic) is Helvar s solution for LED drivers and lighting control systems supporting DALI device type 8 functionality for colour control. Device type 8 is the DALI standard for colour control of LED drivers. In order to achieve colour control of the LED driver, specific DALI colour commands are sent. The driver must support multiple output channels, which are controlled individually. Two channels are used for tunable white, and up to four for RGBW (red, green, blue and white). DALI device type 8 can control these multiple channels using only one DALI address, allowing for more devices on each DALI subnet. This technical note describes ic colour control functionality and features for LED drivers, and guidance for the Helvar DALI Driver Configurator program. DALI device type 8 LED drivers LL35/2-E-DA-iC, LL60/2-E-DA-iC, Note: recommended minimum dimming level for good tunable white dimming performance is specified on individual driver datasheets.
(5) PARAMETER SETTING PROGRAM HELVAR DALI DRIVER CONFIGURATOR This program allow to set LED module parameters for LED driver to ensure proper operation during colour and light intensity control. The program also offer to configure other LED driver parameters like output current along with other features. Please notice that Helvar DALI driver configurator program expand over the time and separate document will describe other functionalities more in detail. Helvar DALI Configurator tool is divided on tabs to ease user comfort. Once device data is read all functions which are not supported will appear as disabled and not allowed to configure. Configuration tool include text fields where parameters modified by typing, information fields, buttons to press and radio buttons to select enable/disable functionalities. Save Changes button exist on each sub tab which save driver parameters modified for the tab. Figure 1. Helvar DALI driver Configurator tool window and Device Identification tab. Device requirement DALI power supply (401, 402 or idim Solo 403), DIGIDIM 505 Serial interface or USB-to-DALI Interface Unit 510 (rev 4 or newer). For installation run the Setup.exe. Win 7, Win XP. Parameter list Main window is common for all sub tabs it shows selected COM port, DALI address and Read Device Data button. Connect With type in COM port used. COM1 as default setting. Automatic detection for 510 USB-to- DALI interface if 510 connected before turning ON the program. DALI Address use only broadcast commands, and configure one device at a time. Read Device Data by pressing this button program will read device data from the driver and update information to all applicable fields. This operation takes approximately 5 seconds to complete. Fields not supported by the driver will be disabled after this action.
(5) Device Identification tab show device information once device data is read by using Read device data button. Product Code SW Version LED driver SW version Barcode Serial Modes tab allow to enable supported device functions. Switch Control Enabled selecting this radio button will enable functionality if it is supported by the LED driver. NTC Enabled selecting this radio button will enable functionality if it is supported by the LED driver. DALI Colour tab allow to adjust parameters for colour functions. Ch 1 (cool) Tc (K) define colour temperature for Ch1 cool white LED. Default 5000 K. Ch 2 (warm) Tc (K) define colour temperature for Ch2 warm white LED. Default 3000K Ch 1 (cool) TY (lm) define lumen output for LED module(s) connected in ch 1. Default 1100 lm. Ch 2 (warm) TY (lm) define lumen output for LED module(s) connected in ch 2. Default 1100 lm. Power On Colour Temperature (K) define temperature where the lights turn ON after mains breakage. o Power On Last Colour Enabled selecting this radio button lights will return on last colour temperature used before mains breakage. Power On DALI Level (85-254) define light level where the lights turn ON after mains breakage. Next to this text field is indication of selected level in percent value. o Power On Last Level Enabled selecting this radio button lights will return on last DALI level used before mains breakage. System Failure Colour Temperature (K) define colour temperature where the lights go if DALI line disappear. o System Failure Colour Disabled select this radio button if no operation is required after system failure. System Failure Level (85-254) define DALI level where the lights go if DALI line disappear. Next to this text field is indication of selected level in percent value. o System Failure Level Disabled select this radio button if no operation is required after system failure.
(5) Current setting tab allow to set output current for LED driver if the driver support this feature. Figure 2. Show an example of parameters to set for a driver that support tunable white operation. Ch1 5000 K and 2180 lm, ch2 3000 K and 2020 lm. These parameters ensure that target light intensity and colour temperature is met during the light output and colour temperature control. USING SWITCH CONTROL WITH THE IC COLOUR CONTROL LED DRIVERS Switch Control enable controlling light ON or OFF and dim the light intensity UP or DOWN or tune the colour temperature with example simple rocker switch. Switch control is driven by connecting mains voltage to DALI input terminals. Once LED driver recognize mains voltage in control input it doesn t support DALI functionalities before next mains breakage. Please ensure that all the components connected in this line are mains rated and protected according all applicable safety requirements. Note: Note: LL2x35-E-DA Switch-Control is only allowed to use in Class I luminaires. Using SW control luminaires may un-synchronize due to delay on SW control cable inductance difference between individual luminaires. Switch Control operation less than 50 ms 100-350 ms longer than 450 ms No operation. This functionality reduce the risk for non-deliberate control due the possible disturbances in control lines. Short press (ON/OFF function); if actual level is OFF, lights return on previous switch control level (default after mains breakage is 100%); if actual level not OFF, save actual level as switch control previous level and go to OFF. Fade UP/DOWN; if actual level is OFF, go to min level and fade up; direction is changed when switch control key is released. Switch Control fade is using DALI commands UP and DOWN and a fixed fade rate (5 sec from min level to max level).
(5) Colour Temperature Control Colour temperature is controlled by fading up to the maximum light level and keeping the button pressed. After 4 seconds the device start to change the colour temperature of the tunable white luminaire. Colour temperature changes upward to the maximum and then back to the minimum and then again back to the maximum and continues this cycle until the user release the button. After the button has been released the colour temperature stays the same during light level fades and switch ON/OFF operations. Below is an example of colour temperature control. Switch Control presses Short press Action Switch the light on 1 long press Fade the light down 1 long press Fade the light up. Keep pressing and colour temperature is adjusted. Stop pressing to choose the colour temperature. 1 long press Fade the light down Above described button presses and the light output changes are shown below (time is expressed in seconds): 2 1 Button 0 0 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 Light output changes: 120% 100% 80% 60% 40% 20% 0% 0 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 7000 6000 5000 4000 3000 2000 1000 0 Light level Colour temperature
