The Cendrillon Essay

In this essay, you will: 1. Prove Cendrillon is a fairy tale 2. Write a thesis statement 3. Write 3 paragraphs that support your thesis using your knowledge of fairy tales and Cendrillon. 4. Write a rough draft in class 5. Write a final draft at home

The Thesis The thesis is a topic sentence for an essay. It states what the essay is about. It also states what each paragraph will be about. All the paragraphs in the essay support the thesis

Bad Thesis Examples This is about why Cendrillon is a fairy tale. Cendrillon is a fairy tale. I think Cendrillon is a fairy tale and here is why. WHY DO THESE STINK?

Better Thesis Examples Cendrillon is a fairy tale for several reasons. There are many reasons Cendrillon should be considered a fairy tale. Cendrillon, the Caribbean version of Cinderella has many aspects of a fairy tale. WHY ARE THESE BETTER?

BEST Thesis Examples Cendrillon is a fairy tale for three reasons: it is a story that involves magic, human-like animals, and good vs. evil. Cendrillon, the Caribbean version of Cinderella, consists of magic, royalty, and good versus evil, all of which are characteristics of a fairy tale. WHY ARE THESE BETTER?

Brainstorm the thesis Quick review: What are the elements of a Fairy Tale? What elements of Cendrillon make it a fairy tale? Divide your paper into thirds. In each section write one element of Cendrillon that makes it a fairy tale.

Brainstorm the thesis Magic Human-like animals Royalty

Write your thesis Now that you have your three reasons for why Cendrillon is a Fairy Tale, write the thesis. Your thesis can be one or two sentences, but not any longer. Write it on the back of your brainstorm sheet. Thesis Examples Cendrillon is a fairy tale for three reasons: it is a story that involves magic, royalty, and good vs. evil. Cendrillon, the Caribbean version of Cinderella, consists of magic, royalty, and good versus evil, all of which are characteristics of a fairy tale.

Brainstorm Magic Good versus Evil Fill each section of your brainstorm sheet with 3 or 4 details from the story. Royalty

Brainstorm the thesis Magic: The mahagony wand Make Cendrillon pretty for the ball Changes breadfruit to carriage Good vs. Evil Madame, Vitaline Treat Cendrillon badly Royalty

Paragraph 1 In this paragraph you will write about one section from your brainstorm list You will use details to support what you write You will indent You will use transition words when needed.

Bad Paragraph 1 Cendrillon is a fairy tale. Consequently it is magic like the wand that is mahogany. For example, the wand is mahogany and makes things come to life like the agoutis. There is also royalty like the prince and Cendrillon is royal when she marries. WHY DOES THIS STINK?

Okay Paragraph 1 One reason Cendrillon is a fairy tale is because of magic. For instance, the mahogany wand is magic. Nannin used it to turn Cendrillon into a pretty girl and all the other things into a carriage, slippers, and the footmen. It is this magic that makes me think it is a fairy tale..

Better Paragraph 1 Like most fairy tales, Cendrillon is filled with magic. For instance, Nannin uses her mahogany wand to turn Cendrillon s drab clothes into a beautiful dress. In addition, she also turns six agoutis into carriage horses, a breadfruit into a gilded coach, and even a plump manicou into a coachman. These transformations are all done by the magical power of that mahogany wand. And while it s true that some fairy tales consist of many more enchantments, the magic in Cendrillon is just enough to give us the happily ever after ending that we would expect. WHY IS THIS BETTER?

Paragraph 2 In this paragraph you will write about the second section from your brainstorm list You will use details to support what you write You will indent You will use transition words when needed.

Bad Paragraph 2 Cendrillon is good. The step mom and sister are evil. Good and evil are in fairy tales. Cendrillon is nice. Vitaline is mean and has sausage toes that are ugly and mean. Then there is royaty. Like paul. He s royal and that s why Cendrillon is a fairy tale. She is nice. WHY DOES THIS STINK?

Okay Paragraph 2 Another reason Cendrillon is a fairy tale is because there are elements of good and evil. The step mom is evil. She is cruel to Cendrillon and makes her do all sorts of chores. Vitaline is evil, too. Nevertheless, Nannin is good. She helps Cendrillon go to the ball and really cares about her. And she likes sherbet. This is another reason Cendrillon is a fairy tale.

Better Paragraph 2 Cendrillon also contains elements of good and evil, an essential aspect of fairy tales. On the good side are both Cendrillon and Nannin. They are hard workers, rarely complain, and have love in their hearts. Nannin even helps Cendrillon attend the fet. Vitaline and the step mother are the evil ones. They are selfish and cruel and treat Cendrillon like she is nothing. What s more, they even lie when Monsieur Paul arrives at the house with the slipper. Fortunately in Cendrillon, good reigns over evil. WHY IS THIS BETTER?

Paragraph 3 In this paragraph you will write about the final section from your brainstorm list You will use details to support what you write You will indent You will use transition words when needed.
