It also consists of research notes and correspondence in German. BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE Hans Belting (b. 1935) is a German art historian and a theorist of medieval and Renaissance art. He was a Visiting Fellow at Dumbarton Oaks in 1959-1960, 1960-1961, 1969-1970, and 1972-1973, as well as a Senior Fellow in 1984-1985. Belting also received a Dumbarton Oaks project grant to research pre-14 th century Byzantine icons and inspect icons in Greece and Italy between 1985 and 1987.
